PROFILE
J. SUGHAND
PRODUCTIONS PVT LTD
A leading film producer, financer and distributor of the Indian
film industry; Jhamu Sughand has been an integral part of the professional
evolution of the film business in India. His ability to spot a commercial
success among the scores of films released in India is incomparable. His
criteria for producing a film remain the unerring ability to spot the cream of
local filmmaking talent.
In 1988, after ten years of careful observation of the mechanics
of the film industry, Jhamu Sughand entered film distribution. Over the next
six years, under the aegis of his company, he distributed well over 100 films
in the various Indian territories.
The next step in his evolution came by entering the production
sector. His first film as producer, BOMBAY,
was a controversial film which took an objective view of the riots between
Muslims and Hindus in Bombay in the aftermath of the demolition of the Babri
Mosque by Hindu nationalists. The unexpected box office success of the film was
a shot in the arm to the industry, which had written it off as being too
realistic for the fantasy driven formula of the majority of Indian features.
Since then Jhamu Sughand has strived to produce projects where the
artistic and creative vision of the director is matched by commercial success.
Due to this unique approach he has worked with many of the most interesting Directors
in India. He has this reputation of given the Best Block Busters & Highest
Grossers year after year
