Statement of Intent
For the Caesar project I have chosen to interview the character Caesar for the character I will interview. Caesar is them main character of this play and it is his ambition and his death that causes all the other events in the rest of the play to occur. I intended to portray Caesar as his ambitious self of wanting to create a better Rome, but also as a man who had his chance of greatness and time to rule over Rome taken away from him. Caesar will admit to his ambitious behavior, but also tell of how he wished he was not killed, and at least given a chance to rule. He will speak against the conspirators and tell of how their acts altered the fate of Rome, maybe for the worse. Overall, Caesar was a man who desired greatness, but was not allowed to achieve his dreams because of other men’s assumptions.
My original intentions for this project was to portray Caesar in his ambitious manner and show his arrogance. I tried to write this into my statement of intent but I ended up with more questions about how Caesar thought he would have ruled if not killed. I turned away from the traditional guideline of Caesar and began asking questions about an altered past and anything he would like to say to Brutus or Cassius. After the recording I found that this turned out better than I had expected. It brought out a more talk show appeal to the project and less of Caesar just restating that he was ambitious, I recreated his character and got him to discuss. Overall I feel that I handled this project well, despite technical errors.
