A Letter from Billy
Hi
Daddy, it’s me Billy. I just thought I’d
write.
Grandpa
came for a visit but he left for home tonight.
Daddy
I want you to know how proud I am of you.
I’m
sending my latest drawing, it’s almost new.
Two
guys in uniform came by and made Mommy cry,
After
they left she acted so sad.
She
pulled out all your letters and started to cry.
She
held me real close when I asked her why.
Me
and Joey from next door were outside playing war;
Mommy
came out and yelled at us and said I couldn’t play anymore.
Mrs.
Gentry from across the street sent over some food,
Grandpa
said we had to eat the liver or it might seem rude.
Mommy
said her and Grandpa had to have a talk,
Your
friend, Sgt. Rudy came by and took me for a walk.
He
said you were a brave and a hero, it was important that I know.
Then
he gave me a big salute and said he had to go.
As
Grandpa got into his car he said, “You look like your dad,”
For
the first time in a week mommy didn’t seem so sad.
I
have to hurry; me and Mommy are going for a long walk;
She
says it’s time that we had a big talk.
Love
you Daddy, Hurry Home!
