A Son Comes Home
When she saw them in uniform, she knew right away. Her son, a Marine, had died that day. They stayed by her side till Greg came home, A heroes' mother would not be left alone.
After 9/11, he wanted to do his part, He joined the Marines, patriotism in his heart. Trained as a sniper, he carried the long gun. He's coming home, his job is done.
Anita raised David alone, no easy chore, She raised him right, fit for the Corps. Why our children go off to war, only they know. He re-enlisted for Iraq, he had to go.
From East Hartford to Haditha, so many miles between, Sending home a son, sending home a Marine. David wasn't alone, he was with many others, He died among friends, died among brothers.
Anita and Greg, it's alright, many a parent has cried. This day I salute, Semper Fi, a fine Marine has died.
