Freedom’s Song
My country ‘tis of
thee, sweet land of liberty.
The smoke, the mud, the fear, they all fill my
day.
The smoke clears, the mud dries, the fear
always stays.
Always surrounded by my buddies but I still
feel alone.
My unit’s the best, all filled with pride,
Men of all colors
fighting side by side.
Eight months ago a teen without a care,
Now a seasoned vet with the thousand mile stare.
My buddies went to college to keep from coming
here,
I guess deep down inside we all have our fear.
I’ve been to all the schools; I’m one of the
best,
I wear my wings proudly upon my chest.
The Stars & Stripes tell us of the riots
and pickets,
Our anger builds as we bust thru bamboo
thickets.
The home of the brave, the land of the free,
For the dawn’s early light please let me see.
