Another Chapter New & rarely seen poems by Michael |
||||||||||
In working on collecting and posting my Dad's poetry it has been interesting to see how his feelings and comprehension of war has changed and evolved over the years. I see poems from the early 1980's when the war was finally beginning to catch up to Dad, when he couldn't pretend it was behind him. When he was hurt and when we were growing up. I see in the poems of recent years a deeper understanding of the events and feelings of the previous three decades. I see the words and thoughts of a survivor and see that nothing is forgotten. War is forever, war was yesterday, is today and will be tomorrow for the men and women who fought, the people who lived through it and the familes that love the veterans and heroes. As we are welcoming home new Veterans from a tough war. I pray for them and hope that my Dad's message reaches them and all veterans: "You are not alone." Laura J. Monfrooe Veteran's Daughter |
