Dedicated to First
Sergeant Eric J. Geressy, a man who cared enough to
stay and share his experience to help save the lives of his soldiers. No better
tribute. May he and his men return to those who love and honor them.
The 1SGT
Three up, three down with diamond in the center.
I’m the first sergeant, a leader, always a
mentor.
I care for my troops, their every need,
The scripture I follow, “The NCO Creed.”
Early each morning I conduct roll call,
My grunts are the best,
they proudly “stand tall.”
A mixture of races standing side by side,
I’m their 1SGT, my heart filled with pride.
DO they have enough food, equipment, time
in the field,
Their welfare is mine, never to yield.
In this time of war my troops must be
ready.
When the need
arises to fight, their aim, rock steady.
I know I will lose men to harm’s way,
I’ve trained them well, to fight another
day.
I’ll pen those letters to those families
left behind.
I am the 1SGT, my job rewarding, not always
kind.
