To Our Friend

        We served together, together in war.

        We were Long Range Recon; no less, no more.

        We laughed, we cried, we depended on each other;

        We were not only teammates, we were also brothers.

        We always said we would stay in touch,

        We never did, the memories hurt too much.

        As years pass, memories come to mind

        Of when we challenged fate, our life on the line.

Living in the here and now is not easy when you can’t forget the past.

        We have to believe that we made a difference, one that would last.

        Our country is again at war; once more we mourn the loss;

        We understand more than most freedom’s mighty cost.

        We have lost one of our own but let us shed no tears.

        Remember Alfred and be thankful for his many years.

        He will always be with us, a special place in our heart;

        He was an American Soldier who did his part.
