I was driving along today, and I saw a book lying on the road, so I did the only sane thing under the circumstances - pulled over in order to retrieve it.

I had to wait until several cars passed by - most of them driving right over it. Then I walked over and picked it up - it was a 1970 Soviet edition of "The Short History of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union," in English.

It has weathered lying on the street amazingly well - it was lying open, and the pages got crumpled by being driven over, but not torn out or shredded. Its back cover is cracked as a result, and has crud all over it, but otherwise it is fine. We are talking some quality communist propaganda here.

What was it doing lying on the street? Well, today was paper recycling day. So I think the recycling guys came along, saw that in the recycling bin, and went, "We don't want this shit," and threw it away. Well, that is my best guess anyway.
So here are some pics of the book, including its introductory page, which is hysterically funny.
