Friday August 8th, 3:20 am...after being asleep for a mere hour, I woke up because my water broke. Within an hour we were at the hospital. This picture on the right was taken just shortly before I got the epidural, about 2 hours after we arrived. The contractions were sudden and strong, they didn't build up gradually like in previous labors. The baby's head was not engaged, so without the pressure of her head, I was not dilating. They added some pitocin to my IV and eventually she came down .
How many machines can they hook a person up to??

After about 8 hours of labor, baby's head came down and I dilated *quickly*. I started pushing around 12:15 and by 12:39pm, baby was born. Bob almost missed it, as he just HAD to run to the bank!  My epidural wore off on the right side of my body, but I can't complain, it could have been twice as bad.

It was a GIRL...big suprise to me. 8pounds and 1ounce, 20.5 inches long.
Bob and I weren't sure what to name her. We knew we wanted to use Frances, for Bob's paternal grandmother. So we decided to wait for the kids and see what they thought. Miss Jane declared her to be Emily, and it stuck. Emily Frances it is!

Em and I came home the next day, after a mere 24 hour stay in a hospital straight from the dark ages. You couldn't have kept me there another moment!

Cameron and Janie are very proud of thier little sister, and Bob is completely smitten!
Proud big brother and sister!
