| The MGMS meeting was called to order on February 9th, 2008 at 1:00pm at the Leoni Twp. Hall with 21 members & 1 guest attending. Guest Kathy Mapes immediately joined. Pres. Jerry Morris presided. Welcome Kathy!
Officers Reports President: Jerry announced Barbara May’s resignation as MGMS Secretary. Betty Heath has agreed to be acting Secretary until a permanent Secretary can be found. No Board meeting was held in January. Vice President: Absent due to surgery. Get well soon Mitch! Secretary: Betty Heath, Acting-Secretary, had no report. Jeanne Bowman pointed out an omission in January’s MGMS minutes. At the January meeting, it had been voted on and approved by the society to allot up to $200 for printing supplies for the 2008 show flyer. HELP! We need someone to fill the Secretary position! Treasurer: Sue Estep reported the February 2008 balances for checking, savings and petty cash. 2008 dues need to be paid to Treasurer by March 25th. Mike Hoover made a motion to accept the Treasurer’s report; Rose Morris seconded. Motion passed. Standing Committee Reports Sunshine Report: Linda Retan was absent. Mitch Bowman had surgery February 8th and is recovering well. Francis Luttermoser would like to announce the birth of their grandchild, Grace. Congratulations! Betty Heath would like to thank everyone for the flowers and cards as well as their attendance to Ron Roberts’ memorial. Bless you all! Show: Chairman; Jim Bretes has show flyers available. Jim suggested a 2-year show itinerary be established ASAP so that our future shows can be promoted by our vendors and other clubs throughout the year. Catering again will be furnished by Memorable Creations. Jim will be contacting them regarding the menu and commission. Tables & chairs will be picked up the morning of February 13th by Jim, saving the club delivery costs. Brian McGonegal & George Econ will set up the electrical needs for the show. Members wishing to sell items at the Club Table must mark their items with their name, item number, price and description. A 20% commission fee from sold items will be contributed to the club’s general fund. You may bring as many items as you wish, but only 5 items per seller will be for sale on the table at a time. Refreshments for Thursday’s set-up will be furnished by Jim. Lenore Semposki & Ernestine Baldwin are organizing Thursday night’s 6pm Potluck. A sign-up sheet as passed around. Contact either of these ladies for info. We need free-standing signs for each of our booths, i.e. Raffle, Gem-o-Rams, Membership, etc. Advertising: Ads are running in 2 magazines. Members that signed up to contact radio and TV stations & newspapers need to get the contacting done ASAP. Mike Hoover will contact JTV. We need someone to volunteer to go on the show. Security: Mike Hoover has volunteers for all 3 nights. Show Signs: Jerry Morris stated that the lighted sign for out front will be available February 24th and road signs will be up Friday, February 14th. Displays & Demonstrators: Please contact Bev Baldwin for display case size and/or sign up for a display. Bev has been unable to contact Grit & Alice Turner to demonstrate. WE NEED light blue or white flat bed sheets for our tables! Raffle: Tickets are now available from Betty Heath. Her new phone # is 764-3095. Club members: 10 tickets $8 + 2 free or 6 for $5. Any questions, contact Betty. Please bring items to be raffled off to our next meeting (March 8th) or prior to the opening of the show. Fieldtrips: Time’s Running Out! The Arkansas trip has planned during spring break: March 30th- April 6th. Contact Mike Hoover for final details. Unfinished Business Scholarships: Mike Hoover reported that we had three applicants for the $250 MGMS Scholarship award. After reviewing the applications, Brittani Geiersbach from Vander Cook High School and Joseph Patrick Whelan II from Jackson High School were awarded the scholarships. Reminder postcards: Jeanne B. stated that the postcards will be sent out within the next week. She also asked for the approval to send reminder postcards out to past members. Approval granted. New Business Beading Babes: No classes in March Librarian: President Jerry Morris asked for volunteers to catalog the club’s books, magazines and videos. Gloria Town & Bev Baldwin volunteered. Call Bev for times to sign out club items. Historian: President Jerry Morris requested the reestablishment of the club’s Historian position. George Tyra had been our Historian previously. Betty Heath said she would contact George to obtain the archives. Debbie Hoppe & Kathy Mapes volunteered to organize the archives. MGMS Pins: Jerry Morris asked if there was any interest in obtaining MGMS name badges like we’ve had in the past. Jerry will check into the costs, etc. MSHA Mine Safety Training: Diane Good forwarded the following information. The Huron Hills Club has Joel Vicary conducting MSHA Mine Safety training at their regular meetings in March & John Lindsay conducting First Aid Safety training at their regular April meeting. • Thursday, March 6th 7pm – 9pm Mine Safety Training.
