| Meeting June 9, 2007
Meeting was called to order by Vice-President Dan Hovater. The June meeting/potluck was held at Mike Hoover's residence. A BIG Thank you to Mike for his hospitality. President, Secretary/Publisher & Show Chairman were absent, i.e. North Carolina Fieldtrip. Officers Reports President's Report The MGMS Board of Directors met May 31, 2007 at the Baldwin residence prior to the Silent Auction workshop with six Board Members in attendance: Bev Baldwin, Mitch Bowman, Jeanne Bowman, Hank Hoppe, Lenore Semposki & Lori Tsutsui. The following topics were discussed: 1~ A motion to change our by-laws, Article III Section 1 to monthly meetings on the second Saturday of each month at 1:00pm needs to be made, seconded and voted in. 2~ We continued discussion regarding Demonstrators and Demonstrators with Sales tables. In order to be fair to ALL demonstrators and vendors alike, we suggest the follow policy: "ALL demonstrators are more than welcome to demonstrate free of charge. Demonstrators, who would like to sell items from their demonstration table, will be charges a table fee. This fee will be according to space/table size & availability (as per table size used in prior years). 4 ft table = $25 6 ft table + $35 Demonstrators may split table cost. All fees for demonstrators sales tables will go into the show's treasury." 3~ Security: Bev Baldwin talked with Sheriff Dan Heins of Jackson County. She asked him how we can prevent or curtail episodes of shoplifting and what our rights are. Sheriff Heins replied that we could hire a Security firm. This firm acts as security for the club and as a witness should we contact the police and file; those subpoenaed must appear in court. He thought the idea of a real or "fake" security camera was great and not against the law. We could also post signs, i.e. "Smile, you're on camera" around the building. 4~ Budget: We established our 2007 Budget to be presented to our members at our June 2007 meeting. Silent Auction Workshop: We had 10 members present at this workshop, Bev & Ernestine Baldwin, Mitch & Jeanne Bowman, Diane Good, Hank & Debbie Hoppe, Mike Hoover, Lenore Semposki & Lori Tsutsui. Thank you all for the great start in organizing next year's Silent Auction. End of President's Report Secretary's Correspondence Report 1. The middle of last month, I received a letter from The Earth Science Club of Northern Illinois that was forwarded to us by Polly Dickman. (see attachments) ESCNO is updating their mailing list of organizations that wish to receive complimentary copies of their bulletin. I will be contacting ESCNO shortly to update the contact information for MGMS. We can also view their bulletin on their website: http://www.esconi.org 2. Bev Baldwin of Beading Babes stated that she and Ernestine would not be at the June Potluck/Meeting as they will be celebrating Ernestine's birthday! HAPPY BIRTHDAY ERNESTINE! The Beading Babes will be meeting June 20th at 6:30pm at the Lioni Twp. Hall. Classes will be on 2-color Spiral Rope necklace. Supplies you will need are: 6# Fireline, Size 11/0 DELICA Beads (2 tubes of each color). For a different affect, you can add Size 8/0 DELICA Beads. 3. I have made 15 hard copies of our 2007 Membership List to be distributed at the meeting. I will also be emailing the list to all members on our email list as well as sending hard copies to our other members (not on our email list) with the June Newsletter. You will notice that there are seventeen (17) 2006 members that are showing as delinquent. HELP! End of Secretary's Correspondence Report Treasurer's Report 2008 Budget has been established Standing Committee Reports Liaison: Lenore S. & Mike Hoover will be going to Spring Arbor regarding booth & set-up for this year's Learning Fair (Mid July). Beading Babes: June's Beading Babes class for beading Spiral Rope jewelry will be at the Baldwin residence June 20 @ 6:30pm. July's Class will be on Right Angle Weaving at the Baldwin residence on Wednesday, July 25 at 6:30pm. Contact Bev regarding supplies needed. Unfinished Business 2008 Show Theme: Rockin' the State in 2008 End of meeting ******************************************** SPECIAL NOTICES ! ! ! SPECIAL NOTICES ! ! ! NOTICE! ! ! UP Fieldtrip: Mitch will be going in for outpatient surgery June 29th & will be incapacitated for several weeks. Mike Hoover has graciously taken over the UP fieldtrip planning. Please contact Mike ASAP to confirm that your are on the fieldtrip list & for details! Due to the fact that the UP trip and Learning Fair are being held during our scheduled July meeting date, we have cancelled our July MGMS meeting. The Bowman's usually host the August meeting/potluck. This year, they will be attending a family get-together. As we have SEVERAL items that need to be discussed, we are asking to change the meeting date to: Sat. August 18th at 1:00pm If you are AGAINST this, contact Mitch or Jeanne by July 15th. Otherwise, we will consider the date changed. Secretary/Editor Note: Yahoo/Geocities seems to be having a lot of difficulty; both with their email system and web sites.
