OUR HISTORY

Mid Cities Seniors began as a concept in the early part of 2003. The concept was simple: Was there a real need in this area for a forum for the single seniors to meet and socialize with others in similar circumstances?

Probably no one reaches their senior years expecting to live them alone. Yet, so many seniors are single, for whatever reason. Would it be helpful to develop a network of friends who offered safe and secure gatherings, with the only focus being to make life better for everyone involved?

By 2001, 3 of us had formed a close friendship. In 2002, another friend began to join our outings. This made 4 of us, 2 men and 2 women, who had become very good platonic buddies. Out of this came the concept of others joining us, and enjoying the benefit of what we shared.

We had no rules, no requirements, no demands on each other. We were only motivated by our friendship. We were each one accepted for what and who we were. No expectations, no hidden agendas, nothing to join or measure up to. Just good dependable friendship. What a concept!

To explore the possibility of others being interested in this concept, we placed a small ad in the
SINGLE GROUPS section of the Star Telegram in early 2003. And people began calling for information. Some appeared to be turned off by the lack of formal organization, but most liked the idea. Each caller was invited to join our functions, and most accepted the invitation.

Over the balance of 2003 we had about 25-30 different people come to at least one function. Some moved out of the area, some began new jobs that took them to new places, and some didn't return for a number of reasons.

We began 2004 with some 30 people who are a part of our group. We continue to have new people join us monthly.

It is worth noting, that the very first person to reply to our ad in the Star Telegram, Judy, is still a very active and important part of our group.
