Mid-Atlantic Cribbage Society

The Mid-Atlantic Cribbage Society is an ACC-sanctioned grass roots cribbage club, meeting in Elkins Park, a suburb of Philadelphia PA.

About MACS

MACS was founded by Frank Wurman and Bob Einhorn as a place for people to get together to play the great game of cribbage. Shortly thereafter we became grass roots club #115 in the American Cribbage Congress. We've grown and changed a lot over the years but we've always had the same goal, to have fun with good friends playing a game we all love.

Tournament info

Our monthly "tournaments" consist of playing nine games against nine different opponents. You score 0 game points for a loss, 2 for a win, and 3 for a skunk (winning by more than 30 points). At the end of the night the player with the most game points wins. Ties are broken first by the number of games won, then by the "spread" (the total points you won your games by, minus the total points you lost by).

The prize money is very simple: each player throws $7 into the pot and the top 1/4 of the players split the cash, with most going to first place, less for second, etc. In addition, if you get skunked you must put 25 cents into the skunk bank, which accumulates. If you score a 29 hand you get to take all of the money in the skunk, and a 28 hand gets you half the skunk.

All of our tournaments follow the same rules as in larger ACC tournaments, so that when you're ready to compete in these you'll know what you're doing. In addition the top scorers in our tournaments earn grass roots rating points, which accumulate throughout the year. Whomever has the most points at the end of the year receives custody of the MACS cup, and earns an invitation to the ACC Tournament of Champions in Reno, Nevada.

We're also having our annual Grass Roots National Tournament on March 15th, 2008.

Membership

Under ACC rules you don't have to be a member in order to participate in our tournaments. You may compete in two tournaments as a visitor, thereafter you must become a member to participate.

To join MACS you start by joining the ACC which is only $10 per year. For more information about ACC membership see this page. Once you're an ACC member you can join MACS for just $5 per year (the grass roots annual fee). This allows you to compete in our monthly tournaments where you'll have great fun with some great people, and maybe take home some extra cash.

We're always looking for new members! Whether you're a novice or an expert you're welcome to come and share this great game with us. If you'd like to join MACS please send us e-mail. We'd be happy to have you!

We meet the first Wednesday of every month at 7:00 PM, and usually run until about 10:00. You'll find us in the Social Room of Elkins Park House, an apartment building at 7900 Old York Road in Elkins Park, PA.
