Charity Jane |
by Sandra Bradley (c) 2004 |
This song is written in memory of my courageous cousin, CJ [Charity Jane]. She was only 20 when she perished along with her 2-year-old son Colby Lee in a house fire. CJ was also 7 months into carrying her 2nd child. Charity Jane was the bravest person I have ever known. |
She died as she lived -- unselfishly, Charity Jane, Charity Jane. She tried to save her little boy asleep upon his bed. She walked through flames to rescue him, but died with him instead. Long after blazing embers dim, her light grows brighter still. Let it be known to all who hear of brave Charity of Mobile. She stood up to the pain and fear, where others would have flinched. A mother's love so strong in her, no evil fire could quench. Though only with us 20 years, her mem'ry will remain. "We won't forget your sacrifice; and we miss you, Charity Jane." She died as she lived -- unselfishly, Charity Jane, Charity Jane. |
