Future Trunks is from, well, the future. He came back to warn Goku of his heart virus and of the killer Androids that would kill everyone except for Gohan. After giving Goku the vaccine for the heart virus he would fall victim to, he returned home in the future.
3 years later, he returned, only to find that 2 different Androids from his time were attacking the Z Fighters of this time. He remained in Goku's time to help with the Andoids. He leanred of his father's true nature, especially when he and Vegeta went into the Hyperbolic Time Chamber to train for Cell. He finally received respect from his father when he was kiled by Cell. After being brought back to life, he returned to his own time for good, getting an almost-proper farewell sign from his father.
