First son of Bardock and older brother of Goku, he is one of the four survivors of the destruction of planet Vegeta. He is a tall Saiyan with long black hair who searches for his brother Goku in order to recruit him as a warrior for Frieza. He tells Goku of his past, and tries to persuade him to wipe out the life on Earth and come back to space with him. When Goku flatly refuses and asks him to leave, Radditz kidnaps his nephew Gohan. Piccolo and Goku team up to fight against Raditz, and in order to save his son, Goku holds Raditz so Piccolo can attack with his Special Beam Cannon, and both Goku and Raditz die.
