May 2004: Fishing Reports

May 12, 2004

Aaron and Andy fished the river last night. Since someone decided to walk off with Aaron's Outboard a couple of months back they fished Andy's boat. I do not have a water clarity report for you yet. Andy had neglected to include that in the e-mail I received from him this morning. I should have that information shortly and will update this report.

The preferred bait for last nights trip were Chartreuse/White and Clown Rapala's in sizes #7 and #9. The final tally for last nights trip was 4 for 6. One fish spit the hook as they were hauling it inside the boat and a nice 6 pound plus fish (estimated) was lost at the back of the boat.

I am not going to be able to make it out until Friday. However, Aaron will be fishing in my absence so I will have some good reports for those fishing the river this upcoming weekend. Hopefully, the rain and storms have ceased for a little while so the water can clean up a little bit.

Despite the rain (and lots of it), the thunder and lightining Andy, Aaron and I fished the river. Also had the pleasure of fishing with Aaron's father and co-worker Frank.

With the nasty weather and storm warnings moving through we got a late start and were fishing a little after 8:00 pm. We pretty much had the river to ourselves. There was only one other boat fishing last night. After pulling #9 and #11 Raps (Clown's, Vampire's and Blus/Silver) until 10:00 pm we ended up going 9 for 10 (16 to 25 inch range)

The water was stained and the temperature was 54.5 degrees. Most of the people that I have seen fishing the lower river have been flatline trolling Shad Raps or Handlining. The jigging action seems to be hot on the north end of the river hear BASF, Great Lakes Steel and Fighting Island. Were heading back out this evening so I should have another report for you all tomorrow. Here are a couople of photos from last nights trip.

Again I would like to apologize for the lack of reports lately. Between my trip to Huntington Beach, California and work. I have been pretty busy and only had the chance to fish on Sunday, May 2nd. I am slowly getting back on schedule and will continue posting my daily reports.

I had to work friday evening and could not make it out with Andy and Aaron. I was bummed out that I was not out on the river since they were hitting me up on the Nextel everytime they had a fish on. AS you can tell by the picture in this today's report they did well and boated 9 nice fish.

After moving my sister and brother-in-law into their new house and a wedding on Saturday I finally made it out fishing with my friend Adam. This is the first time this year that Adam and I fished together and have to say I had a blast. Did not know how well we would do since we had alot of rain throughout the weekend.. This did not help out much, it was pretty stained but still fishable for handlining. We started fishing at 7:00 and called it a night after limiting out by 9:30 pm. As always the old trusty #7 and #9 Clown was the bait of the night. I did take a fish or two with a #9 Firetiger too.

Andy called me and had asked if I would be interested in fishing with him last night. Unfortunately, I was on a road trip installing some voice and data cabling at a location in Canton and could not make it back in time. Andy had went out by himself and caught two nice walleye on a #9 Clown. Nice Job Andy!!!!

That is all that I have for you today. Now that things havwe settled down a bit I can get back into posting daily reports for you all.
