| A/N: I owe a really big thank you to Orli for this. Without whom this chapter would never have been written Within a couple of hours they were in a custom-made Foundation jet on their way to their target. Andrea was seated at the back working on her telepathic abilities with Marie and Mackenzie monitoring her progress. Adam was flying the plane with Alex seated in the co-pilots chair, they were having an in-depth discussion about which is unclear. The conversation ends and Alex moves to the back of the plane. “We are about to land. I just want to go over everyone’s jobs one last time.” He started “Marie and Mackenzie your going to be outside the building guiding us through. Your our last line of defence so if something happens we’re going to need you to help get us out.” “Andrea your with Adam and me. All you have to do is keep us in contact with Marie and Mackenzie. Other than that watch our backs. If it looks like something is going down you inform us and then you get your arse outta there. We don’t need an untrained newbie getting hit in the middle of this.” “Does everyone understand their jobs?” “Yes Alex” Marie and Mackenzie said in mocking unison, while Andrea just nodded. At that point the jet started to descend and Alex slipped to the ground, before quickly finding his seat. They landed safely on the ground (although it wasn’t as smooth as it could have been) and left the plane. They were in a small field surrounded by trees. If Marie was right (and according to Alex she always was) then the building they were looking for should be on the other side of the trees. After walking for approximately 10 minutes (and much complaining about the fact that they couldn’t have landed closer to the site) the team reached a fence. A huge chain-link fence with barbed wire on the top. This is where they would be parting company with Marie and Mackenzie. It didn’t take long for them to set up the twins’ equipment. Marie has an x-ray headset, allowing her to follow the rest of the team’s movements through the building without actually being with them. It also made it easier to make sure that their cover had not been blown. Mackenzie had a laptop equipped with all the information and programs she needed to help them get past the alarms. With that Andrea, Alex and Adam started their trek towards the building. Walking away from Marie and Mackenzie for 4 or 5 minutes along the line of the fence, Alex motioned for the girls to stop. “This is the spot.” Alex said “Do you want to go first Adam or should I?” “No I’ll go” Adam whispered. Without anymore explanation than that they moved closer to the fence. Just to be safe Adam picked up the nearest stick and threw it at the fence. Nothing. Well at least they knew the fence wasn’t electrified. With that done Alex cupped his hands and bent down so they were near his knees. Adam put one foot on Alex’s hands and jumped while Alex pushed her up. She twisted and somersaulted, landing on the other side of the fence. “Your turn” Alex whispered turning towards Andrea. “Oh no! There is no way I’m going to be able to do that!” Andrea whispered back. “Sure you can” Alex reassured her “All you need to do is visualize yourself going over the fence and Adam is there to catch you if something goes wrong. I’ll do all the hard work!” “Ok but if I don’t get over first try you can forget about me trying again.” “Darlin’ if you can’t get over the first time I’d be going without you anyway!” With that said Andrea and Alex went through the same motions Adam and Alex had. Once Andrea was in the air she concentrated on landing on the other side of the fence. Which she did. HARD! “Ow” Andrea whispered “I’m gonna feel that in the morning!” “ SHHHHH we don’t want to draw attention to ourselves now more than ever” Adam whispered coming up to kneel beside the seated Andrea. “Besides you’ve really got to see how Alex is going to get over that fence.” All went quiet than as the two of them watched Alex make his way towards the fence. He grabbed hold of some of the links and pulled himself to the top. Then when he reached the barbed wire he grabbed hold of two of the rings, swung himself up and once he was half way through a turn Alex let go of the rings, somersaulted and landed on his feet near the girls. The cuts he had gained while holding the barbed wire healed right in front of Andrea’s eyes. “Come on we can’t just sit here all day. MOVE!” Alex ordered while making his way towards the building. The girls, of course, quickly followed. Once they reached the door Andrea connected the three of them to Mackenzie and Marie and the fun started. “Marie can you guide Adam through picking this lock?” Alex asked. “Are you kidding” Marie replied “That’s like asking if I know how to feed myself!” Everyone fell silent as Marie guided Adam through the lack and within a couple of minutes they were in. “Alright” Marie said “When you get in there are approximately 15 doors on the left and the right. You want the fourth door on the left. Most of the others are just rooms but it’s that corridor that you want.” Within half an hour with Marie’s guidance and Mackenzie’s expertise with alarms they were deep within the building. And everything was going fine. Or so they thought. “Marie” Andrea said “Can you check just around the corner on my right? I think someone might be there, but I don’t want to risk sending out a probe ion case it alerts them to our position.” “Not a problem. Just give me a … Guys you need to get away from there now. There are about 5 heavily armed guards headed your way.” Marie replied. “Okay we’ll just be another minute, Adam’s almost through.” Alex said. “You don’t have another minute Alex. GET OUT NOW!” Marie yelled “We have to get this stuff or we will never hear the end of it Marie” “Too late your gonna have to fight they’ll be on you in 5 secs.” Andrea stood there trying to figure out how she was going to help seeing as how she had no control over her powers, Suddenly… FLASH Andrea, Marie and Mackenzie are sitting around a table discussing Andrea’s powers. Very little is loud enough to be heard. But from the whispers… “Andrea, from what I can tell the more control you get over your telepathy, the more control you’ll get over the psionic outbursts.” Mackenzie was saying. FLASH So maybe with the small amount of control she had over her telepathy she should be able to use the psionic abilities to defend them. And that’s just what she did. Andrea fought just as hard as Alex and Adam, and everything was under her control. That is until one of the guards caught Andrea off guard with his long, bayonet like, knife. He got in with a couple of thrusts while Andrea countered with her psionic fire but he was just that little bit faster than her and was able to stab her in the shoulder. Andrea fell to the ground in pain and the guard advanced on her. In pain and fear for her life Andrea lashed out with her psionic fire, but that control she had valued just a couple of minutes ago was gone and there was too much fire. The guard was killed, but it didn’t stop there Andrea’s new lack of control meant that she couldn’t ‘switch’ her powers off and the psionic fire kept expanding until the hallway was on fire and Andrea collapsed from exhaustion. The guards ran in one direction and Adam and Alex carried Andrea out in the other direction. Unfortunately as they were running for the exit the fire reached the gas pipes and the building went up in a giant fireball. Debris and people went flying in every direction. On landing it was clear that everything was not alright. Alex had a healing factor, which was working over time at that point, and Andrea’s powers kicked in once she was airborne protecting her from debris and some of the impact. Adam was not as lucky she had no healing ability nor did she have any power that could protect her. She was hurt and hurt bad. Once Alex and Andrea had picked Adam up, Marie guided them to a hole in the fence that was created after the explosion. Then they took off for the jet, with Marie explaining that Mackenzie was already there starting it up and preparing for lift off. After they had gotten Adam settled on the bed at the back of the plane and were in the air, Marie and Mackenzie (who was flying the plane) switched as Mackenzie had a better knowledge of first aid then any of the others on board (except of course for Adam who was unconscious). Mackenzie went to the back and helped Adam as much as she could. Unfortunately there was not a lot she could do not being a doctor and all. She bandaged her wounds and attached her to a respirator. From what she could tell there was a possibility there was a possibility of one of Adam’s lungs failing. If there was anything else wrong with her Mackenzie couldn’t tell, so after making her as comfortable as possible, Mackenzie grabbed some bandages and sat beside Andrea. “ Is she going to be okay?” Andrea asked as Mackenzie gently took hold of her arm and rolled the sleeve up to get a better look at her shoulder. “I think you might need some stitches. But about Adam to be honest I’m not sure” Mackenzie answered “I’ve done as much for her as I can it all depends on The Foundation now! Just hold still while I bandage your shoulder okay” Before Andrea had time to ask Mackenzie what she meant, Alex could be heard yelling into the in-flight phone. “What do you mean your not worried?” “She’s going to die if you…” “I understand that she’s important to us” “I don’t care about the rules” “You know what you can tell Miss Foxx….” “Tell her…” “Tell her that if she does not have a medical team at the landing pad by the time we landing pad by the time we land, who are there to SAVE Adam, we’ll leave, we’ll take her new weapon and….” Andrea didn’t know who Alex was yelling at but by the time they landed ½ an hour later Alex was only just slamming the phone down. As soon as the door opened a medical team rushed in and grudgingly took Adam with them, after Alex yelled at the of course. He followed not far behind them, to make sure they saved her was what he yelled as he walked off. Marie and Mackenzie convinced Andrea to let them take her to the doctor’s office, so that he could take a look at her shoulder. An hour later Andrea left there with Marie 15 stitches and a sling richer. As Marie was showing Andrea to her new room, they talked about the recent events. “Marie who was Alex yelling at on the phone?” Andrea asked “AHH that would probably have been Operative Command” “Who are they and why was he yelling at them?” “They’re our direct bosses, they tell us where and when we have to go and what we have to get. Alex was yelling at them because they would probably have informed him that they had no reason to send a medical team to save Adam! This is of course only speculation” “Why? I mean isn’t Adam valuable enough to them as a part of this team?” “Oh Adam is very valuable to them there is no doubt about that. It’s just that they find it easier just to clone those that are seriously injured. It means they don’t have to take the medical teams away from the experiments. It also means that any operatives on the field don’t have the hinderance of serious past injuries, like a collapsed lung.” “Ohh. So cloning is bad cause that’s what The Foundation prefer to do. But would it really be that bad? I mean you would still have Adam and she would possibly be even stronger!” “True but I’ve seen the effects of their cloning on other teams. The people don’t always come back the same. Sometimes it’s only subtle differences, but other times they have they have a completely different personality. They’re not the same person anymore.” “OHH. So we cold get Adam back but she might not be the Adam you know anymore!” “Exactly. Look it’s been a rough day. You have to be tired. Why don’t you get some sleep” With those words Marie walked to the door and left the room. But before she closed the door she said “We’ll go and see Adam and Alex tomorrow. See how they’re doing. Goodnight.” And with that she closed the door and left. |
