We left in the morning and drove to the Cape Cod National Seashore, one of the beautiful seashore in the world. Mention Cape Cod will make people think of different things: swimming and sunbathing, fishing and whaling, clams and cranberries, writers and artists, cottages and shops, Pilgrims and Indians. To help protect the qualities of this environment, the national seashore was established in 1961 within the 40-mile-long section between Chatham and Provincetown. The Cape's human history is as rich as its natural history. We stopped by at Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham to get more information about the Cape. Falmouth We drove farther more and stop for a b'fast at Wellfleet, also known as The Art Gallery Town. Then, we drove to the town called Woods Hole, which was Michael used to work 20 years ago at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI). WHOI offers many specialized laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment. The National Ocean Sciences Accelerator Mass Spectrometry Facility helps scientists determine the age of marine specimens through radiocarbon dating, and the Norteast Regional Ion Microprobe Facility offers the capacity to extract information from rocks about geological events that occured millions or even billions of years ago. WHOI is the largest independent oceanographic research institution in the US. We had lunch at Fishmonger's Cafe, which is specializing in seafood and vegetarian entrees. Best-known as hippies cafe, and the oldest cafe in town. Then, we visited the Aquarium nearby. We drove farther more, and stop to Chapoquoit Beach for a walk. What a beautiful beach. The seashore also has a number of short self-guiding trails. Then, we drove to the old lighthouses along the coast. We stayed at Green Harbor Waterfront Lodging, a cottage with a panoramic view. After storage our baggage, we ride a paddle boat belongs to the hotel and going around the lake, it was really fun!!!! Night comes, beautiful moon over the blue sky accompanied us to the restaurant for a dinner. We choose The Boat House Restaurant which is offer the harborside dining. How romantic! The meals here was very good, we enjoy it very much! Along the Shores We woke up in the morning and drive along the shores. Much of the high cliff has eroded since Guglieimo Marconi first built his towers at Wellfleet in 1901. Great Island, where whalers used to congregate, is now connected to the peninsula. In the Provincetown area where the Pilgrims landed in 1620 before sailing across the bay to Plymouth, and in the national seashore are several historic buildings that reflect the residents' longtime association with the sea. The Old Harbor Lifesaving Station was moved in two pieces from Chatham to Race Point near Provincetown in 1977; Captain Edward Penniman's 1868 house in Eastham is a typically ornate but denotes the once profitable whaling business; Nauset Light is one of five lighthouses within the seashore; and the Atwood-Higgins House, built about 1730, represents the typical Cape Cod dwelling. Having lunch at Provincetown which is offer so many different foods from around the world, especially seafoods. Then, walking around after meals to enjoyed the tourist area and others. In here, we found some Indonesian crafts, but the price.. crazy! very expensive!! After that, we drove by to Race Point Beach for walking and sitting while watching the waves come in, and it's fun to watched hundreds of seagull catch fishes on the ocean. Very relaxing because so quiet, just like we have our own beach:-). We went back to the hotel before evening. Before we took a dinner, we drove to the closest shore to see the moonshine reflexing on the water. Very beautiful night! We had dinner at the same restaurant as yesterday, The Boat House. At night was so wonderful, we decided to sit in the front of the lake at backside of our hotel. Romantic!! We planned to go to Martha's Vineyard in the morning, so we went to sleep early. |
