Shower Corner Unit

A tiered portable or wallmounted chrome caddy keeps shower accessories, such as brushes, soaps, and shampoos, together and close at hand, and fits snugly in the corner of a shower cubicle.  Slatted shelves allow the wet items to drain easily.

Closet Cabinet

Keep new bars of soap in a warm closet with your towels; this scents the towels and dries out the soap, making it more long-lasting.

Medicine Box

Store medications for each member of the family in separate containers, plastic boxes are ideal, as they are easy to clean.  Keep medicine and other potentially dangerous items in high cabinets.  First-aid kits should be stored where they are easily accessible in case of emergencies.

Small Cabinet

A bedside cabinet or table should be able to hold a lamp, book, and glass (or tray if you enjoy b'fast in bed).

Blanket Basket or Chest

Wicker baskets, chests, and trunks remain versatile and useful storage choices, particularly for bulky items like blankets.  Lightweight wicket baskets can be moved easily around the room, while large, sturdy wooden chests or trunks may double as seating.

Pull-out Bags

Make use of otherwise wasted space under the bed.  Store spare bedding here, as well as other items that are not used on a regular basis, such as out-of-seasons sweaters.  Large, zip-up bags that protect from dust are ideal for this purpose.

Bedding

Allow sufficient space to accomodate spare linen and out-of-season bedding.  Bed linen should not be kept year after year in a warm linen closets, as it will discolor over time, so storage in the bedroom is ideal.  Place cedar balls with your blankets to keep moths away.

Walk-in Closet

If you have the luxury of space, a walk-in closet set up like a small storage room with drawers, hanging rods, and shelves is ideal.  Transparent drawers allow instant visibility for accessories, and high level shelves can be used for out-of-season storage.  An absence of windows means less exposure to dust, but lighting must be good.

Tie Racks

Various types of tie rack are available that either hang from the clothes rod inside the closet, or to save space, on the back of a door.

Accessories Rack

Gloves rival socks in their ability to lose their partners.  This system of pins and small pouches looped over a rack keeps gloves in pairs and scarves together for easy retrieval.

Drawer Organizer

A creative solution to the problem of chaotic underwear drawers.  Expandable plastic drawer insert separates and sorts underwear, sock, and scarves.  The entire contents of the drawer are visible at a glance, so you are more likely to use the items on a frequent basis.

Jewelry Board

An improvised of pins and tape on a wall-mounted, felt-covered board prevents jewelry from becoming tangled, keeps pairs of earrings together, and offers instant visibility.

Shoe Cabinet

Specially designed deep drawers with metal rods are ideal for storing shoes.  To extend the life of good leather shoes, protect them from dust and keep them spaced apart so that they are not touching; shoe trees ensure they keep their shape.  Also, a space-saving shoe organizer that hangs on the back of a door can store a large number of indoor shoes and accessories, but is less practical for heavily used outdoor shoes, which will quickly soil the fabric.  An inexpensive way of protecting shoes is to keep them in their original boxes.  Cut a window at the end for easy identification.

Tips

-
For seasonal storage, place clean clothes in sealed bags or covered boxes.  Cedar balls or shavings will deter moths.

- Contoured wooden hangers are better for your clothes than wire ones, which bend easily and can catch on garments.
