Removing Eye Makeup Mineral oil, baby oil, or petroleum jelly remove mascara just as well as any fancy makeup remover. They are more effective and gentle than soap and water, and they leave behind a thin, protective film that moisturizes lids and lashes. When removing eye makeup wipe gently, don't rub; each eyelash you lose will take nine months to replace. Vitamin E oils is also good for removing eye makeup. It doesn't sting and it's good for your skin. Putting on Mascara if You Wear Contacts Contacts lens wearers who have trouble with smudging mascara should try the waerless, waterproof mascara. Apply it after inserting your lenses and let it dry for about 3 minutes. |
Emphasizing Eyelashes and Eyebrows To make eyelashes and eyebrows appear thicker and darker, dab a little petroleum jelly on them. Lipstick Color Don't blame your lipstick if it changes color often. It's not the product that's to blame but the natural excess of acidity or alkalinity in your lips. Powdering your lips first is quite useless; lipstick fixers are very temporary. When lipsticks turn deep pink or red, you have extra acidity in your skin; orange tone changes indicate alkaline skin. The best solutions to the problem are to: (1) totally avoid lipsticks; (2) use only lip glosses since they contain little or no color pigment; (3) stay with orange-tone lipsticks and remove and reapply them often; or (4) use lipstick tones that are frosted. Polishing Nails To dry nail polish faster, use ice cubes. Apply each coat of polish, wait 30 seconds, then place your fingers in a bowl of ice water, being careful not to touch the bowl or the cubes. Store your nail polish in the refrigerator; it'll always go on smoothly and evenly. Cuticle Care If your nails have horizontal ridges, you're probably being too rough with them during your manicure. Push cuticle back very gently with an orange stick. Using a sharper tool or pushing back forcefully into the cuticle could mean that you're digging into the nail below the cuticle, where it's softest. You won't see the indentations you're creating until the nail grows beyond the cuticle, which could take four to five weeks. Saturate your cuticles and fingernails in vitamin E squeezed from the capsule once a week, and dry skin, torn cuticles, and hangnails won't be nearly so bothersome. Filing Correct filing is the secret to preventing nail splits. Use long, sweeping strokes rather than back-and-forth sawing motions. And hold the file at a straight angle, rather than perpendicular to the nail, so that each layer of the nail is slightly longer than the one underneath and less likely to break on contact with objects you touch. |

Wearing What You Eat Your diet shows. What you eat will affect your skin (and your hair). For lovelier, healthier skin and hair, lighten up on the heavy meats, oily foods, and sweets, as well as coffee, tea, and other caffeine-containing foods. And go heavy on the fruits and vegetables, salads, and non-meat proteins, like grains, whole grain breads and cereals, and beans. These foods nourish from the inside out. |
