For Iroquois campouts, we have 1 to 3-man "teams" to take
CHARGE of a camping event. This team (with help from the Chief/Co-Chief)
would be responsible for planning our tribe's participation in an event.

These dads could then focus early on their weekend events that would
require their greatest thoughts and energy. The rest of the dads could
then basically show up and not have to think about too much beyond their
own family's preparation. Of course, everyone would help as requested at
the event.

Our Dad's Meeting could then focus on specific proposals about events
from the "team-in-charge" responsible for that event. Thus, the tribe
as a whole could fine-tune a plan in place rather that try to put a whole
plan together.

The camp chairmen's responsibilities are of course dependent on the type
of campout event that is taking place. For example, YMCA camps take less
preparation than a "cooking" campout. Thus, these duties would include
(but are not limited to) the following:
1) Coordinate with the rest of the tribe on exactly who is going.
2) Figure out what and how much food to bring. Figure out the tentative
bill. Do the necessary shopping.
3) Figure out what other kind of "common" supplies will be necessary, i.e.,
do we have enough exterior lighting, fresh water (if necessary), cleaning
supplies, utensils cups, plates, pots/pans, firewood, etc.? How about the
cooking equipment? Again, figure out the tentative bill and do the shopping.
4) Coordinate with the Wampum Bearer (or Chief) the appropriate fees to
collect from each family.
5) Make sure we're prepared for whatever activities the camp will have. For
example, if there is skiing, make sure every family in the tribe knows
this and brings the appropriate gear.
6) Plan our own tribal activities for any "downtime". These would be games
that our own tribe would play so that we could keep our kids away from various
electronic games and keep them "outdoors".
7) Coordinate with the Chief the camp setup and camp takedown volunteers. These
people are also responsible for transporting the common equipment and food
to the campsite.
8) Coordinate with the Chief the chore schedule for the weekend. There are
three types of chores required at every meal: cooking, setup/serving, and cleaning.
Past and current Chiefs are exempt from chores. Also take into account those
people who are assigned setup or takedown duties, and take into account
the arrival/departure times of the various families.

Each campout will require 1 to 3 camp chairmen, depending on the type of
campout event. Each tribe member is required to volunteer for at least one
camp chairman slot. If you want to share chairmen duties with another specific
dad, then get your request in ASAP to the Chief. Otherwise, the Chief will
apply his infinite wisdom and select teams, i.e., you will be ASSIGNED an event.
If you can't make an event that you've been assigned to or volunteered for, it
is your responsibility to find a replacement dad.
