About 95% of most known asteroids come from a region of space located between Mars And Jupiter called The Main Asteroid Belt. The first one was discovered in 1801.  26 known asteroids are larger than 200km in diameter.  Over 2,000 of them have names while others are merely numbered.  Even though there are millions of them, their combined mass would be roughly less than that of the Moon.  Scientists recently wrongly concluded that an Earth impact was imminent in 20 years. (Thank God they don't know everything!)  The links you will find below are overflowing with information.
