One night in January, he had phoned her by surprise. She had found out that he had gotten sick and couldn't keep up with his classes at college. He had gone back home to live with his mom and attend community college. She was glad to hear from him again. After a few hours had gone by, it was time to say goodbye for the night. He called about once a month after that. After a few months had gone by, once again there was no phone calls, no e-mails, and no messages.
At about mid-July he surprised her again with another phone call. He had told her that he left to go to San Diego to join the Marine Corps. He was discharged during boot camp for medical reasons. Tears were shed on her part because her feelings for him were growing; but she didn't think it would work because it was about a 15 hour drive. After a few weeks of his return home, he had decided to move to Maryland to live with his dad. When he got to his dad's on August 2, 2000, they had both told each other of the strong feelings they had for one another. They had decided to start the long distance relationship.
The following month, on Labor Day weekend, he had come to visit her for the first time. It was love at first sight. It was one of the best weekends for the both of them. The sadness had started once again for it would be 3 months before they would meet. It felt like the longest 3 months ever. We knew that we both wanted to be together forever.
