True Stories from an arctic guide.
Halloween in Churchill, Manitoba The polar bears gather near Churchill each fall to wait for the ice to form. Halloween is right in the middle of polar bear season, which makes 'trick or treating' a little dangerous for everyone. The Mounties (R.C.M.P.), the Ministry of Natural Resources, the volunteer fire department, and parents all try to keep the kids safe by patrolling the dark streets looking for polar bears. Some parents will carry guns with them as they walk their children from house to house. With everyone being extra careful and cooperating, it is a safe holiday. No one should ever dress-up for Halloween as a polar bear! |
