  • All polar bears are Capricorns since they are all born in late December or early January.

  • Polar bear skin is black.

  • February 19, 1996 the Canadian two-dollar bill was replaced with the two-dollar bimetallic coin. The coin's reverse side depicts a polar bear standing on an ice floe. The coin is commonly known as a "twoonie" (too-nee).

  • Polar bear liver has a lethal dose of Vitamin A in it. Eat it and you will die.

  • Polar bear's are so well insulated and give off so little heat, that they are difficult to find using infra-red heat detecting cameras.

  • Polar bear teeth grow a little larger each year.

  • Fur Fishing. Those who like to tie their own flies and go fishing value polar bear hair for their flies. It seems that all the little air spaces in each hair keep the fly afloat - something these anglers value. A 3"x3" bag of polar bear hair costs $13 U.S.!

  • Polar bear hair isn't hollow - it's porous. It isn't fiber optic either, as once thought.

  • Polar bears have the same body temperature as people, 37.2oC (98.6oF). Their fur and blubber are such an excellent insulator that they don't get cold!

  • A polar bear's tongue isn't pink! It's a black and blue colour

  • A male polar bear's neck is smaller than his head.

  • Cubs that are less than a year old are called "coys" - Cubs Of the Year.

  • Churchill has a polar bear jail that is larger than the jail for people.

  • Even though snow geese can't fly when they moult, a polar bear still won't eat them. If a 320kg (700lb) polar bear's spends any more than 12 seconds hunting a snow goose, more calories are lost hunting than there are in a snow goose. It would be like you running around the block for a cracker!

  • Polar bears are pigeon-toed. That means their toes point inward instead of straight ahead.
