What's New
Javica and Beyond Software and the moving image

Version 1.5

Released August 22nd, 2001

  • Removed the infamous 49 image limit. Javica now displays all the images in a directory.
  • If no Thumbnail exists for an image, Javica will show a scaled-down image instead.
  • There is also an option for automatically generating missing thumbnail files for all pictures.
  • Rename still defaults to a file name generated from the date the picture was taken, but the format of the date is user selectable.
  • On startup, Javica will open the directory you were last looking at.
  • Javica reads bitmaps.
  • If you like, you can open each image in its own window, or just use one window like before.
  • The image window can default to the size and shape of the image you are viewing.
  • I split the file date and time label into two, one for date, one for time.
  • Took out some GIFs from the distribution.
  • Took out some ugly HTML from the web pages Javica Generates.

Version 1.2

Released September 21st, 1999

  • Javica now orders images in alphabetical order. Woop-de-do!!! But hey, a bunch of people were asking for it..
  • Put my email address in the Help / About Menu. I'm a sucker for punishment (and SPAM).
  • Version 1.2 is available for MacOS (tested against 8.0), Win32 (tested against windows 95, windows 98 and windows NT 4.0) and Linux (tested against RedHat 5,2).

Version 1.1

Released November 12th, 1998

  • Javica now generates thumbnail (.411) files from fullsize images.
  • Modest Multi-threading allows you to see the thumbnails as Javica loads them instead of waiting in ignorance.
  • Along the same lines, the cursor changes to the 'wait' cursor (Hour glass on windows, wrist-watch on Mac) when you load a full-size image or a disk full of thumbnails.
  • Thumbnails are shown in the full-size window as a placeholder while the full-size image loads.
  • Thumbnails now resize if you resize the Javica window. Maximizing the window now makes thumbnails easier to see, rather than drowning them in whitespace.
  • Added scroll bars to the About Javica text. Not that you really care, or even noticed their absence. Upshot is you can now see the Warranty (or lack thereof) by scrolling down.
  • Added relevant images to Delete / Rename dialogs, allowing you to see more clearly which image it is you're about to destroy forever.
  • Added context-sensitive Pop-Up menus, for quicker access to functions.
  • Javica checks for the existence of GIF files before writing them. Saves a ton of time on slower machines.
  • There is a fourth gallery option, Thumbnails Only that, um, only shows thumbnails.

MacJavica Version 1.0

  • Pretty much identical, apart from some Mac Java oddities.
