Author's Note: While I totally passed over it the first time, I was watching Superstars this morning and watched a replay of the Austin/Benoit match on Smackdown! I was of course paying a lot of attention to the wonderful commentators, and heard a couple things I couldn't believe I missed. It's these things that gave me the idea for this. Be warned, this is a silly mess! ^_^ Enjoy, feedback me!!!
Michael and Pete sat backstage after the end of Smackdown! They were talking, just getting ready to leave the building.
"So, Cole, that was a pretty good show,"
"Yup. That last match was pretty good,"
"Yeah...about that...you were sounding a little hoarse. You better take it easy, I wouldn't want you ending up sounding as bad as you did before." Pete looked at Michael with concern. "And another thing....you better watch yourself...you keep talking about Austin the way you do and Vince'll make you interview him. You'll end up just like JR did!" Pete said jokingly.
"Yeah, right...even Vince is nice enough not to do that. He knows damn well that unlike with JR, the crowd wouldn't even react to Michael Cole getting the crap kicked of him...except maybe with a few cheers," Mikey said jokingly.
"And besides that, it probably wouldn't be good for my image or the image of the company when I ran in and kicked Austin's ass and carried you out of there,"
"Aww...be careful talking like that...people might realize you're just a big old softy...couldn't have that, could we?"
"At the choice of saving you and looking like a jackass or doing nothing, I believe option number one would be the obvious choice."
"My hero!" Mikey said, holding his hand to his forehead like a damsel in distress.
Pete laughed and said, "Yeah...someone's gotta be, all the trouble you end up in!"
"Yeah? Well, where were you when I was *brutally* attacked by the Big Show?"
"Lemme think...oh yeah...laughing at ya!"
"Some hero you turned out to be!"
"Like you needed it...those guys broke your fall anyways!"
"An excuse for everything with you!" Michael giggled. These little arguments were so much fun.
"Ya know ya love me anyway!"
"That, I can't deny," Michael kissed Pete on the cheek, wrapping his arms around him and lying his head on his chest.
"Let's get outta here babe."
"No arguments here." Michael started to walk out and was taken by surprise
when Pete swept him up in his arms, cradling him like a small child. Michael
sighed contentedly as he snuggled up closer to Pete. This was what life
was supposed to be.
