Beautiful winter scene in the Provo Canyon. Just east of Provo, Utah (ML)
I have to admit that my first impression of Utah wasn’t very favorable. I thought the desert around St. George looked the same as the Nevada and Arizona deserts that I had crossed a few times. But, the scenery got better once we got into Cedar City. The Wasatch Mountains which rimmed the town were decked out in their winter coats of snow. It was a lovely scene; but one which turned out to be a teaser for the grandeur of Provo and Park City.
Provo turned out to be much more beautiful than either of us imagined. We never tired of stepping outside the door of the house where we were staying and seeing the Wasatch rise majestically just off to the east. The beauty that we saw in Provo was only magnified when we ventured into the Wasatch Mountains and Park City. The snow and ice covered landscape seemed to be exactly what everyone imagines when thinking of a perfect winter scene.
The Mormons may have some shaky theology. But, like other successful groups, they knew how to pick out their real estate. To better describe what I’m talking about, just enjoy the pictures below.
