Pluses: Great breakfasts, great hosts, great rooms.
Minuses: A minor one…the location is a too far from the theatres and downtown to allow for comfortable walking.
Price: Depends on room, but they average about $130/night.
Overall: A fantastic B&B. I can’t imagine staying anywhere else in Ashland.
Name: Holiday Inn Express
Address: 250 Highway 20 Fort Bragg, CA 95437
Pluses: Comfortable rooms, not far from ocean, clean facilities and parking lot
Minuses: Maintenance wasn’t great, as evidenced by the front door lock on our room that didn’t work.
Price: A room with a king sized bed cost $114/night
Overall: Comfortable…but nothing too special.
Restaurants
Name: Happy Pita Cafe
Address: 1100 Front Street Sacramento, CA
Pluses: In Old Town Sacramento
Minuses: Horrible “mystery meat” gyros. Little room to sit and enjoy meal.
Price: “Chicken” gyro was $5.95
Overall: With all the good restaurants in Old Town Sacramento, one can avoid this place.
Name: The Plaza Cafe
Address: 47 N. Main. Ashland, OR
Pluses: Super fresh food, great ambience next to Ashland Creek
Minuses: Out of date menu, slow service
Price: Grilled chicken Caesar salad was $9.50. Grilled salmon tacos were $11.50. Hoison BBQ chicken wings were $6.00
Overall: Can’t go wrong with this restaurant.
Name: The Greenleaf Restaurant
Address: 49 N. Main. Ashland,OR
Pluses: Great setting next to Ashland Creek, excellent service, very good food
Minuses: A bit pricey.
Price: Pastrami sandwich was $7.95. ½ of a turkey sandwich was $4.95. Club sandwich was $9.50. Side of potato salad was $2.50. Bacon and cheese baked potato was $6.50
Overall: One of the best places in Ashland at which to dine.
Name: Munchies Restaurant
Address: 59 N. Main. Ashland, OR
Pluses: Good portions, great service
Minuses: A little hard to find, not much ambience
Price: Burrito was $7.95. Cobb salad was also $7.95
Overall: Not the best choice on Ashland Plaza, but a very good alternative nonetheless.
Name: Scampi’s Fish Wagon
Address: 16333 Lower Harbor Rd. Brookings, OR
Pluses: Fantastic fresh fish. One of the best clam chowders I’ve ever eaten.
Minuses: When they say wagon, they mean it. All seating is outside under an awning.
Price: 8 oz. of clam chowder was $2.30. Two pieces of fish, French fries, and buttered roll was $6.95.
Overall: Worth a detour to visit. An absolute must stop if one is in the area.
Name: Ashland Creek Bar and Grill
Address: 92½ N. Main St. Ashland, OR
Pluses: Very good food. A good selection of beers. Service was good considering only two waitresses were available to handle both inside and outside.
Minuses: Ambience is horrible. Interior is too dark and the outside was not cooled.
Price: Onion rings were $4.50. Chicken strip sandwich was $6.95. Hawaiian burger was $6.95.
Overall: The food and prices don’t offset the ambience. Only worth seeking if you’re thirsty.
Name: Black Sheep Pub and Restaurant
Address: 51 N. Main. Ashland, OR
Pluses: About the only place in Ashland open very late (1 a.m.) for food, good service
Minuses: Way too dark inside the building. Food was good, but not great
Price: Cornish pasty was $6. Butter greens, orange, and walnut salad was $6.50
Overall: Too much atmosphere offsets decent food. Try somewhere else.
Name: BJ’s Ice Cream Parlor
Address: 199 E. Main. Ashland, OR
Pluses: Only the most incredible ice cream in Ashland. Good location near the theatres. Open late hours.
Minuses: None.
Price: Milk shake is $4.50.
Overall: The perfect after play treat. A must visit if one is in Ashland.

Address: 326 N Main St. Fort Bragg, CA
Pluses: Incredibly fresh food, huge portions, great service
Minuses: The Wizard of Oz theme was a bit overdone for my tastes. Restaurant is a bit small, so lines are not uncommon.
Price: French toast with fresh blackberries (seasonal dish) was $8.95. Omelet was $7.95
Overall: A great place for breakfast in Fort Bragg
Name: Mary’s Pizza Shack
Address: 8 W. Spain St. Sonoma, CA
Pluses: Great food, great service, nice ambience
Minuses: Can get a little crowded
Price: Pesto bread sticks were $5.25. Medium Mary’s combination pizza was $16.95
Overall: Can’t go wrong with a stop here.
Attractions
Name: Oregon Shakespeare Festival

Pluses: Great theatres, superb acting, innovative productions
Minuses: Can be tough to get tickets. Some of the chances they take with the plays don’t work.
Price: Varies. But, expect to pay about $50/ticket.
Overall: There’s a reason this festival is considered the premier repertory theatre onthe West Coast. A must visit.
Name: Crater Lake National Park

Pluses: One of the most beautiful lakes in the world. Stunning mountain scenery.
Minuses: Can get crowded. Not easy to get to.
Price: $10/car. Boat rides on the lake (summer only) are $21/person.
Overall: Worth going out of your way for a day trip.
 
Name: Oregon Caves National Monument

Pluses: Incredible cave complex. Great formations inside cave
Minuses: Not easy to get to. Tours can fill up fast
Price: $7.50/adult.
Overall: Worth a detour.
Name: Harry and David

Pluses: Incredible selection of food. The best customer service in the world.
Minuses: Not cheap. Plan to use your credit card to its maximum.
Price: Free to enter the store. But, you will end up paying a lot by the time you’re through.
Overall: Another must visit…if only to get some Moose Munch.
Name: Fort Ross State Historical Park

Pluses: Interesting look at a little known piece of Russian and American history
Minuses: Not easy to get to. Not much inside the fort to look at.
Price: $6/car
Overall: Worth visiting if you are in the area, but not worth a special trip.
