Given that Pennsylvania was founded as a place where all could practice their faith without fear of reprisal, it didn’t surprise me to find that religion has played a major role in shaping the state’s character. What did surprise me was that religion continues to be a prominent part in the lives of Pennsylvania’s inhabitants. From the role models of the saints to the simple lifestyle of the Amish, one can find a depth of religious sentiment in Pennsylvania that is unrivaled in other states. I chose to examine three aspects of that sentiment.
