A Filipina in Cambodia
and Hongkong

What's a Filipina doing in Cambodia and Hongkong?

Well, Cambodia was for a conference sponsored by the COFFEL,
Cambodia's organization to ensure free national and local elections,
to be held for the first time by the government.
The very first national election of 1992 was under the wing of the United Nations.

The conference theme was"Women in Local Government."

Four Filipinas went to Cambodia to deliver papers in that conference.

Just before they left four days after,
they were ushered by a female attache of the Philippine Embassy
around what is popularly known as Cambodia's Genocide Museum,
where are documented in graphic terms the atrocities of Pol Pot.
The horror over the discovery is can be seen written on
the faces of three of the delegates,
led by the female attache.

The last afternoon saw three of the delegates going home to Manila,
with the fourth delegate scooting off to Hongkong
for a sidetrip for both journalism and photo-journalism purposes.

Ah, but the result turned out to be quite literary.
Both Hongkong scrapers and their inhabitantsturned out to be
cold and soulless,
and the Filipina domestics...well...
go and read our three-part serieson the Filipina domestics in Hongkong;
be sure to click "Past Issues" either above or below any of the pages.

So our Filipina writer/photographer decided to scoot it again
back home, soon after to take a most felt picture
of a sunny Philippine flower in some warm Filipino garden
in gentle Quezon City.
