A TRIBUTE TO A TEACHER & A STUDENT

 

PROF. SAEED RASHID (LATE)

A TEACHER WHO SERVED THE GREAT ALMA MATER FOR 4-DECADES

 

Prof. Saeed Rashid was born at Bareilli (India) on 20 January 1927. A graduate of Bareilli College, Bareilli, he had the honour of having been on the roll of Muslim University Aligarh. While at Aligarh, he was tutored by such legendary figures as Dr.Shaukat Sabzvari, Dr.Das Gupta, Dr. Ishrat Hussain, Prof. Rashid Ahmed Siddiqui & Dr.Zakir Hussain (Late president of India). The college days of young Saeed coincided with the crucial phase of Pakistan Movement. He joined Military College Jhelum as a teacher on 22-August-1950 and retired from his active service in January 1988. Providence decided to take him away to his eternal abode and thus an illustrious career came to an end on 19-June-1999, his leaving behind thousands of mourners.

The revered Professor established himself as an author of great versatility who wrote prolifically on all important subjects of leadership, education & biography. He wrote in English as well as in Urdu with equal facility. For the Alamgirians, he had become a legend who reffered to him time and again in respect and guidance. At the College, in his dedication, he set the standards and kept working so persistently that the world around him did not bother him in his persuits. He was a unique person to come across, always concerned about the goodness of the college, the boys and their wholesome growth. Prof.Saeed Rashid has left an indelible print on the history of Military College. He will be remembered long as a teacher of great merit and a man of sterling qualities.

BRIG.(R) MAQSUD-UL-HASSAN, SI(M), TI(M)

7-YEARS AS STUDENT, 7-YEARS AS COMMANDANT AT MILITARY COLLEGE JHELUM.

 

Brig.(Retd) Maqsud ul Hassan, SI(M), TI(M), was commissioned in the Pakistan Army in November 1965. He joined an infantry battalion of the Punjab Regiment which he later commanded in 1978-80 at Jamrud Fort and had the honour to become 'Colonel of the Battalion' later on.

During his long meritorious career he held various command, staff and instructional appointments. He was Director Military Training at GHQ (General Head Quarters) Rawalpindi. Before that, he had commanded an Infantry Brigade deployed along the Line of Control. He fought 1971 war in Neelam Valley, Kashmir. He is a graduate of Command and Staff college Quetta, PAF Staff College Karachi and National Defence College Islamabad. He is a recipient of Sitara-i-Imtiaz (Military) & Tamgha-i-Imtiaz (Military). He had the privilege of heading Military College --His Alma mater-- during the last seven years of his service from 1991 to 1998. He retired from his active service in August-1998.

Military College went through an era of consistency and stability during his command. This must be called a period of consolidation and growth. He gave his maximum time to the College. His contribution would remain in the fond memories of cadets and their parents. He imbuded the boys with the Alamgirian spirit in such a manner that every event at the College vibrated with that spirit. Many projects came up and many positive changes were seen. Homogeniety was the hallmark of his tenure. The campus presented the harmony of the aesthetic conception of the environment. He worked tirelessly and guided well his team in maturity and self-confidence. The College acknowledges him as one of those pioneers whose contributions have been so visible.

We salute him and we are grateful to him. We wish him and his family health and happiness.
