Campus Resources
General Stanford Info: Stanford University web site - with links to the various departments. Stanford Community Calendar - a good source of some of the events on campus, though not always the best way to find out about student events. A good place to publicize for events that community members are invited to attend. Stanford Daily web site - the daily Stanford newspaper and good source of issues and events on campus. Residential Education RA E-mail List - a great way to advertise student programs on the RA e-mail list, which is then distributed among the dorms. Good idea to meet with the head of Res. Ed. in the beginning of the summer to make sure you can use this list without any problems. Office of Student Activities - a good site to find out about some of the programs going on around campus. Associated Students of Stanford University (ASSU) - the governing body on Stanford's campus, responsible for funding undergraduate and graduate programs, etc. Good idea to become familiar with them and how they work. Stanford Facilities and Operations - while you might not need to use this site on a regular basis, it is a great source of information about various locations on campus for programming space as well as all the necessary requirements in order to book a location. Event and Labor Services - part of the Labor Services web site, where you reserve spaces and equipment needed for a program. Kathy, or the office manager, usually does this but good to be familiar with the process. Stanford Bulletin - a list of all departments, requirements for majors, list of all possible classes for the year, etc.
Finding People Stanford.Who - the authoritative source of student, faculty, staff e-mails, phone numbers, PO Box addresses, etc. While it doesn't have everyone's information, you can find most people here. Directory Services - access through Address Book feature of Eudora e-mail program, also able to get Stanford.Who info from this function, good for quick info while writing an e-mail. Stanford Directory - the White Pages of Stanford University with all info for departments, faculty, staff, students, etc. We get a few of them in the beginning of the year and they are also available at the bookstore. Includes a great map of the campus and surrounding area. Key for finding places on campus, believe me! Freshmen Face Book - while many upperclassmen use this for sketchy reasons, this is an essential guide to putting names with faces and vice verse. It arrives in the beginning of the year and is great for the whole year especially because it is organized by dorm and an index listed by first name.
Hillel/Community Resources Hillel International - the mainframe of Hillel, with programs on the Program-Exchange, grant opportunities, information on upcoming conferences, etc. JCSC list serve - jcsc@lists.hillel.org - this floods your inbox, but gives you an idea of what's happening with JCSCs on other campuses :) "Resource" book - an annual Bay Area publication with a list of every Jewish organization in the area. Great for making contacts in the general Jewish community and co-sponsorships.
Potential Partner Agencies A much larger list exists, but these are partner agencies that have or may work well at Stanford American Jewish World Service (AJWS) - We worked with them to do an Alternative Spring Break to El Salvador a few years ago. Adina is a good contact for them. Coalition on the Environment and Jewish Life (COEJL) - a cool environmental Jewish group to work with on doing environmentally-concious programming. They have a chapter in the East Bay and are looking to start one at Stanford and on the Peninsula. The Israel Center - Provides a wide variety of Israel programming possibilities with speakers, funding, information on Israel, etc. Avner Even-Zohar is the Director of Campus Divisions and is a good contact - (415) 512-6425, avnere@sfjcf.org. Kesher - Supports liberal and Reform programming on campuses (including
grants).
