Feeding the Flames

Part 17

Trunks settled down carefully in the `yard' behind Capsule Corp.
While it wasn't currently cultivated, it had been at one point, and
still bore vestiges of that time, mostly in the bold demarcation
between the lawn and the shrubbery.  It was nicely lush at this time
of year, the climate providing it with plenty of rain naturally, and
quite sunny enough to lounge in.  Trunks figured he'd need a little
nap before this final confrontation with Gohan, the last stage and
the one he –needed- to win.  Even if he –couldn't- sleep, he could
prepare himself, marshal his arguments and such.  He was still trying
to ready himself, nervousness finally getting the best of him, when
he nodded off, sprawled out in the grass and sun.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As he touched down lightly, returning from his daily chores, Gohan
was treated to a lovely sight.  Trunks was stretched out on his back
in the grass, topless as was his current habit, fast asleep.  He
paused for a moment to admire how gorgeous he looked.  Gohan's
hormones began to take a definite interest in the situation, and he
tried to quiet them as he knelt next to Trunks, one hand against the
warm skin of his belly.  Positioning himself carefully, he strove to
clear his mind of all thoughts and feelings, except for the warmth of
the sun, the soothing touch of a light breeze, and the overall happy
feeling his surroundings were pouring into him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Rising from his near-trance, Gohan stretched, eyes widening in
surprise as he realized just –how- long he'd spent outside.  It was
now late afternoon, and he really should move inside to prepare
dinner.  He could leave Trunks for a bit longer, though.  It would
remain warm for some time yet, and he was loathe to disturb someone
who looked that comfortable.  Even if he was sorely tempted to make
it a communal nap and stay.

Despite his caution, Gohan managed to wake Trunks some what as he
rose, though he wasn't too certain of just how conscious he really
was.

"Don' leave.."  One of Trunks' hands captured his wrist and tugged
him forward, his attention trapped by the sleepy blue eyes gazing up
at him.  He tugged again to make sure he got his point
across.  "Stay."

Gohan sighed, the urge to obey Trunks' commands strengthening by the
second.  "You can stay.  I have to go inside, make dinner.  Aren't
you hungry?"  An underhanded tactic, trying to get your way with a
Saiya-jin through food.

Trunks, however, wasn't about to give in, scowling in a sleepy,
disarming manner up at Gohan.  "Stay with me.  `Sides, you're
comfy."  That said, he snuggled up against the startled Gohan,
stretching out next to him.

"Trunks.."  Gohan was very definitely losing this battle.  Trunks was
curled up against him so nicely, he didn't want to upset him, and he
couldn't see much harm in taking a little nap.  "Fine."  He gave in.

Trunks sighed happily, snuggled closer, and that lovely warmth was
the last thing Gohan was aware of.

~~~~~~~~~~~~
      Gohan was purring.  Fingers were stroking through his hair
and it felt wonderful.  Coming back to himself, he realized that
Trunks was stroking his hair, as well as purring himself, and their
positions had shifted dramatically.  He was now curled around Trunks,
head resting on his chest, arms about his waist, and their legs
tangled up together.  One of Trunks' hands was resting at the nape of
his neck, while the other ran back and forth through his hair.
Trying to rise, Trunks' hands stopped him.
      "Wanted to talk to you," he murmured quietly.
      Gohan relaxed, then thought about it for a moment.  "Is it..
about the children again?"
      Trunks chuckled.  "Not really.  Started a long time before
them.."  Taking pity on Gohan, who was trying to think of what Trunks
could mean through the hints he'd given, he began to speak.
      "You still can't believe that I've forgiven you, can you?  If
you did, you wouldn't be so cautious around me, as if I'm going to
explode out of the blue.  Take me -seriously- this time."  He raised
Gohan's head so he could look him in the eye. "I.  Don't.  Mind.  I
-forgive- you!  Gohan, you can stop worrying about it!"
      Gohan sat up, looking carefully into Trunks' eyes, studying
them.  He saw… frustration, a touch of sadness (because he hadn't
really listened to him?), and on top of the rest, overpowering
honesty.  Trunks truly, honestly, -meant- what he said.  It was
enough for Gohan to finally give voice to the question which had been
brewing in the back of his mind, and represented all of the
insecurities he was facing.  "How?"
      Trunks smiled gently at him, pleased somehow by his reaction,
and reached forward to tangle his hand in his hair again.  "Because..
I don't.  Because I never would.  Because I've been dreaming about
you for years."  He leaned forward, eyes locked with Gohan's, lips
nearly touching.  "Because I love you."  He closed the distance and
kissed him.
