I don't own Sailormoon or anything pertaining to.

This story (and title) is dedicated to my dearest
friend, Minako-chan. You are a constant source of
encouragement, joy and fun in my life. Thank you.

Serena walked through the streets of London rather
listlessly. Her feet seemed to be moving on autopilot,
taking her where ever they wanted to. Her mind, on
the other hand, was in overdrive.

'How dare he come into my life, turn it upside down
then just pack up and leave? Doesn't he realize the
impact he's had? How can he just leave? Doesn't
he feel anything? How could he have made me love him?'

Tears welled up in the young blond's eyes as she
slowed even more and came to a stop. She looked
around, trying to make out where she was, to no
avail. Serena was extremely lost.

A soft whimper escaped her lips as her eyes fell on
a bench. Collapsing on the bench, Serena buried her
face in her hands and sobbed.

**Flashback**

"I don't want to go to the concert, Mina. You know
I don't even like that kind of music." Serena exclaimed.

"Come on Sere! I can't go alone, and no one else
will come." Mina whined.

"Mina..." Serena sighed. "All right, I'll go. But
you owe me! You owe me big time!"

"Sure Sere!" Mina giggled.

"So, where do we get tickets?" Serena asked.

"Already have 'em!" Mina whipped out the set of tickets
and beamed. "I knew I'd get one of you to cave in and
come!"

"Thanks Mina." Serena shook her head, but laughed at
her bestfriend's antics.

**End Flashback**

Serena took a few calming breaths, trying to pull
herself together. She wiped the tears from her face
and looked around again.

'If I just go back the way I came, I should be fine.
Geez Serena! Your getting worked up over nothing!'
She told herself.

Standing up resolutely, Serena turned in the direction
from which she had come and began walking. She watched
her surroundings carefully, trying to recognize anything
but to no avail. She was still utterly lost.

**Flashback**

"I'm not wearing that to the concert Mina! No way."
Serena shook her head. "I'm happy dressed the way
I am!"

"But.. But... Look at you! That's no way to go to a
concert with the hottest pop star ever!" Mina exclaimed.
"At least wear a skirt?"

Serena looked at Mina's pleading expression and sighed.

"How about my flares and a white tank top?" Serena
asked, trying to compromise.

"And platforms?" Mina asked.

"Any shoes you want." Serena agreed.

"Done! Get ready quick! We have to leave soon." Mina
exclaimed.

"This is the first time I've ever heard of you rushing
to be one time!"

"You think I want to miss one second of Darien O'Malley?
Your nuts!" Mina laughed.

**End Flashback**

Darien O'Malley. The name alone was enough to bring
fresh tears to her eyes. Serena clenched her eyes shut
and tried to push back the tears.

'There have been enough tears already, Serena. No
more.' She told herself, before continuing on, more
determined than before.

'I know I've been here before.' Serena though, a little
relieved that she was getting back into familiar
territory. 'The bakery should be just around the
corner, then two more streets 'til I'm home.'

A small smile played on Serena's lips as her eyes
fell on the sign for the bakery. She quickened her step
and before she knew it, Serena was walking up the steps
to her small house.

**Flashback**

"Isn't this exciting, Serena?" Mina asked as they made
their way inside. Serena nodded, although she wasn't
nearly as eager for the concert as Mina was.

"Sure thing, Mina."

"Oh my gosh! Serena look! He's going to come in from
that direction, and make his way through the crowd.
Come on!"

Before Serena knew it, she was being dragged towards
the the rope and multiple security guards who were
waiting to hold the crowds back.

"Mina! This isn't a good idea!" Serena exclaimed, but
Mina had already shoved her way through, and the pair
were right at the rope.

"Hi." One of the security guards smiled at Mina and
Serena.

"Hey." Serena replied, half-heartedly.

"Hi." Mina smiled, batting her eye lashes.

The guard opened his mouth to say something else, but
screams started erupting from the various women around
them.

"Oh my God! Serena! It's him!" Mina screamed,
clutching onto Serena's arm. Serena turned to look in
the direction Mina was pointing in.

**End Flashback**

Serena shoved her key in the door and threw her door
open. She slammed it shut behind her and locked it
again. Hanging her coat on the coatrack and tossing her
purse on the table, Serena headed into the kitchen.

She hit the 'play' button on her message machine and
listened to the three messages.

"Hi Serena! This is your mother. Give me a call as
soon as you get in, all right? Your father and I are
worried about you. Talk to you soon."

Beep!

"Hey girlfriend! You haven't phoned in a while. You
aren't mad or anything, are you? I mean, I know it's
all my fault... Well, gimme a call, k? Thanks."

Beep!

"......"

Serena shut off the machine and erased all the messages.
She picked up the phone and quickly punched in Mina's
number.

"Hello?"

"No I'm not mad at you Mina." Serena said. "It wasn't
your fault at all."

"Oh thank goodness Serena! I was so worried! How are
you? Are you okay?" Mina asked.

"Sure, why wouldn't I be?" Serena asked.

"Sere..." Mina said warningly.

"Do you want to go out for coffee or something?" Serena
asked.

"Sure! That'd be great. When?" Mina asked.

"I'll meet you at Crown in twenty minutes, k?" Serena
asked.

"Okay! I'll see you!" Mina hung up. Serena quickly
ran up to her room and ran a brush through her hair.
She splashed cold water on her face and was on her way.

**Flashback**

He was extremely attractive. Serena felt herself going
faint just looking at him. He smiled at the crowd as he
made his way towards the stage.

As he passed the pair of blondes, Darien's gaze seemed
to linger on Serena. He paused momentarily, leaning
towards one of the guards and whispering something. The
guard nodded and Darien continued on his way.

The entire concert, Serena was mesmerized. Darien was
dressed in tight black pants and a white shirt. Serena
could tell his eyes were stormy blue, even from the
distance at which she stood. Every so often Darien's
eyes seemed to make their way to hers, and remain there,
locked together.

"Hey girl! You okay?" Mina asked, diverting Serena's
attention.

"Sure, Mina. I never realized he was so... So..."
Serena was at a loss for words.

"Extremely attractive?" Mina suggested.

"Yeah..." Serena replied, then smiled. "I'm glad you
talked me into coming."

"No problem, Sere." Mina smiled at her friend before
turning her attention back to the idol. "Someday I'll
be just as big as him, Sere. I'll be an idol too."

Serena giggled at the fantasy.

"Right Mina. The world is gonna adore a nineteen year
old blond ditz!"

"Hey!" Mina exclaimed, before laughing.

**End Flashback**

"Hey Sere." Mina jumped up to hug her friend as Serena
came into the arcade.

"Hi. Have you ordered yet?" Serena asked.

"Nah, I was waiting for you." Mina replied.

"Okay." Serena slid into the booth across from Mina and
picked up the menu. "Hmm..."

"Can I get you two anything?" The waitress asked.

"I'll have hot chocolate and a piece of your strawberry
cheesecake." Mina replied.

"Yeah, I'll have the same, but chocolate not
strawberry." Serena looked up at the waitress.

"Hey! Your that girl that was dating Darien O'Malley,
aren't you?" The waitress asked. Tears filled Serena's
eyes and she looked down.

"What on earth are you talking about?" Mina asked.
"Sheesh! You read too many tabloids. Go get our
cake!"

Feeling quite reprimanded, the waitress took off to fill
their orders.

"Oh Serena... I'm sorry..." Mina whispered, trying to
console her friend.

**Flashback**

"Excuse me miss, can you please come with us?" One of
the security guards asked, startling both Mina and
Serena.

"Me? What did I do?" Serena asked.

"This way please."

"I'll wait for you, okay Serena?" Mina promised as one
of the guards ushered her out of the slowly emptying
concert hall.

"What is going on here?" Serena asked as she was lead
through the crowds, a security guard on either side and
one behind her.

"Please don't ask questions miss." The man glanced at
her. Serena sighed and gave up trying to get answers
from him.

They opened a door for her, and Serena found herself
being led down a rather dark hallway. After several
twists and turns, she found herself in front of a
door.

"Just knock, okay?" The guard asked before the three
men began to leave.

"Hey! What is this?" Serena asked, but they just
left her alone. Annoyed and frustrated, Serena knocked
on the door.

"Just a minute!" A voice called from inside. Then the
door opened, to reveal Darien O'Malley.

**End Flashback**

"We can change our order to go, if you'd like and go
back to my place." Mina suggested.

"No." Serena shook her head. "I need to get over this
Mina. It's been several weeks, and..."

"Serena! No one gets over a break up in a few weeks.
Especially not when the relationship was so... intense.
No one expects it of you either."

"Thanks Mina. You've been so supportive." Serena
sniffed.

"Hey girl! That's what friends are for. Why don't we
go to a salon after this, and get total makeover's, k?"

"Sure, why not. I can use a change like that." Serena
smiled genuinely, for the first time since Darien had
left.

"Great! I know this perfect place. We can get out
nails done too. Then we can go on a major shopping
spree. And how about a movie tonight?"

Serena laughed.

"I don't know Mina. That's an awful lot to be doing on
such short notice. Besides, I have work tomorrow."

"Work shmirk. Call in sick. You can stay at my place
and we'll stay up all night watching romantic movies,
k?"

"You always have crazy ideas Mina."

"And you always love them, so please?"

"Alright," Serena laughed. "Alright."

**Flashback**

"Hi." Serena was absolutely shocked to find herself face
to face with the hottest rock star the world had ever
known.

"Hi! Please, come in." Darien opened the door wider and
Serena stepped through.

"I'm not exactly sure why I'm here. A few security
guards brought me here, and..." She let her voice trail
off.

"Yeah, I know." Darien smiled. "I asked them too."

She raised an eyebrow at him, as he sank into one of
the chairs. From a brief glance, Serena could tell
this was his dressing room. The room wasn't very large,
and contained only a couch, chair and table. There was
a door that was open, and Serena could see clothes
strewn about.

"I was intrigued, when I saw you." Darien shrugged. "I
wanted to get to know you better."

"I see..." Serena brushed her hair back, out of her
face.

"Might I ask who you are?" He asked.

"My name is Serena." She told him, sinking into the
couch across from him.

"Serena is a beautiful name." He smiled at her.

"Thanks." Serena replied. Darien glanced at his watch.

"I don't have a lot of time right now, I have to get to
an autograph session, but maybe I can see you later?"
He asked.

"Sure." Serena replied, seriously doubting that she
would ever see Darien again. "My number is 832-7265."

"Here's my cell number. It's my personal number, so
whenever you call, I'll be the one answering." Darien
told her.

"Thanks." She accepted the card he held out to her and
tucked it into her back pocket without glancing at it.

"Can I give you a ride somewhere? I probably held you
up from who ever you were with..."

"No, that's okay. Mina said she'd wait for me."
Serena replied, standing up.

"Alright." Darien stood as well. "I'll show you how
to get out of here."

"Thanks." Serena replied, grateful because she was
sure she wouldn't figure out all the twists and turns.

**End Flashback**

"Whatever it takes, whatever the cost, we want to look
like totally different people!" Mina exclaimed to the
men and women running the salon they had chosen.

"Alright."

"But not hair cutting." Serena interjected.

"You have the lovliest hair!" One of the hairdresses
exclaimed. She pushed Serena into a chair and began
to brush the hair out.

"And you, come this way!" Mina found herself with
her head dunked in too hot water, then lathered with
something she wasn't sure she wanted in her hair.

'Oh well. This is for Serena, after all...' Mina
thought, then sighed. What she was willing to put up
with for her friend.

**Flashback**

"Your kidding me! He gave you his number and asked for
yours?!" Mina squealed. "That is amazing!"

Serena laughed.

"I doubt I'll even hear from him again. He was probably
just goofing off, or something." Serena replied. "Hey,
why don't we go downtown and grab some ice cream. I
love that little store we went to last time."

"Sure thing Sere! Besides, I heard that Darien O'Malley
is doing a signing somewhere today!" Mina exclaimed,
grabbing Serena's hand and running towards the bus stop.

"Mina! Slow down!" Serena called as they raced to catch
the next bus.

Panting, they came to a halt at the bus stop, just as
the bus rounded the corner.

"See.. we.. had to.. run..." Mina gasped out. Serena
shooked her head and got on the bus.

"All this for ice cream.." She muttered.

"Darn good ice cream!" Mina told her.

**End Flashback**

"Not too much! Sheesh! What are you trying to do,
make me look hideous?" Mina screeched at the poor woman
trying to do her make-up.

"I'm so sorry miss! I'm new at this and..." The woman
faltered. Mina sighed.

"Alright, you do it more like this." She began impromtu
lessons on make-up application.

Serena on the other hand, was having a marvelous time.
Her hair had been washed and now tumbled down her back
in a riot of curls. Blue eyeshadow had been dusted
across her eyelids, setting off the brilliant blue of
her eyes. Her lips were a delicate pink, and peeked
up at the corners in a gentle smile.

Mina sighed as she glanced at her own reflection. Her
make-up didn't match her skintone, the eyeshadow was
a hideous shade of orange, and her hair seemed to be
alive.

"I think I'll just re-do a bit of this stuff..." Mina
scrubbed the make-up off and started all over.

**Flashback**

"I can't believe you got vanilla!" Mina exclaimed.
"Of all flavours they had..."

"Hey! I happen to like vanilla ice cream." Serena
replied, happily licking at her cone.

"So do I." A deep voice behind her said. Startled,
Serena whipped around to find herself face to face
with none other than Darien O'Malley.

"Hi again." Serena told him. Mina grabbed her arm,
and was squeezing it rather tightly. "This is my
friend Mina Aino."

"Hi, I'm Darien O'Malley." Darien offered her his hand,
and Mina grabbed it, shaking emphatically.

"Hi! How are you?" She asked. Darien laughed.

"Great, and you?"

"Oh wonderful!"

"So Serena, I saw you walking by and ducked out of the
autographing session." He laughed again.

"I don't suppose your fans, or bodyguards, like that
very much." Serena commented.

"No, probably not." Darien agreed.

"I see I'm right." Serena pointed at several men in
dark suits headed in their direction, and looking none
too happy.

"Uhmm... How about I call you?" Darien asked.

"Sure." Serena shrugged.

"What time do you think you'll be home?" He asked.
Serena shrugged again.

"I'll have her home anytime you want." Mina told him.

"Around seven thirty then?" Darien asked.

"You got it!" Mina promised.

"Bye Serena. It was nice meeting you Mina." Darien
turned quickly and headed back the way he had come.

**End Flashback**

"That is adorable! Oh you have to get it Serena!" Mina
exclaimed. Serena looked at her reflection once more.

"I don't know Mina. It's kinda... revealing." Serena
looked uncertain.

"That's the point Sere! It looks great on you."

"Well..."

"I knew you'd see it my way! Let's go pay for it and
get on with it! I haven't got all day to shop, you
know." Mina told her.

"Oh really?" Serena asked.

"Yes really. I have to go home and pig out on chocolate
too!" Mina giggled. "Now come on!"

Laughing, Serena and Mina made their way to the cash
register and paid for the dress.

**Flashback**

"Hello?" Serena asked, answering the phone.
"Hi Serena." The voice was unmistakable.

"Hi Darien." Serena replied softly, sinking into the
chair next to the phone.

"How are you?"

"Fine. How did your autograph session go?" Serena
asked.

"As well as one can go." Darien replied. "What were you
doing when I called?"

"Mina's here." Serena told him.

"Are you busy tomorrow?" Darien asked.

"Tomorrow?" Serena repeated, looking at Mina. Mina
shook her head no. "I don't think so."

"Would you be interested in going out for dinner and
a late movie, maybe?"

"Okay sure." Serena agreed.

"Great. I'll pick you up around eight?" Darien asked.

"That sounds wonderful." Serena smiled.

"Okay, I'll see you then?"

"Yeah.. Bye Darien."

"Bye Serena."

**End Flashback**

"So which movie do you want to watch first?" Serena
asked as she curled up on Mina's couch with a bowl
of popcorn.

"Uhmm... This one." Mina held up one of the movies,
then popped it into her VCR.

The movie previews began to play, and Serena was
starting to let her mind drift off the topic of Darien,
and get into the movie.

"... And now, our feature presentation, featuring the
music of Darien O'Malley."

Serena moaned softly.

"Can I never escape him, Mina? Is it impossible to just
move on with my life?" She asked, tears flowing down her
cheeks.

"Oh Serena... I'm so sorry! If I knew his music was
in this, I never would have rented it..." Mina bit her
lip as she looked at her friend.

"Mina.. I miss him. I love him." Serena whispered.

**Flashback**

"I had a great time tonight, Darien." Serena stood in
front of her door, facing Darien.

"So did I, Serena." Darien smiled at her. "We should
do it again sometime."

"Yeah, that would be great." Serena reached over and
brushed the hair out of his eyes. Darien chuckled
and reached up to catch her hand. He gently brought it
to his lips and caressed the palm of her hand with his
lips.

"Darien..." Serena breathed, before pulling her hand
away to tie around his neck.

Their lips met briefly, then again, and again. This
time Darien pulled her closer and deepened the kiss.

**End Flashback**

Serena could still feel his lips on hers, and the way
he would hold her, and caress her. It did nothing to
help her situation.

"Mina, I want him to come back. I don't want to live
without him. I need him..." Serena sobbed into the
pillow.

"Serena! Forget about him! He left you without a
reason. He's not worth it! He's not!" Mina exclaimed.
"Pull yourself together girl!"

Serena looked up at Mina in surprise. The blonde's
eyes softened.

"Serena.. We're all sick of seeing you fall apart at
the slightest little thing that reminds you of him. If
he didn't realize what he had with you, he obviously
didn't appreciate you."

"Mina, it isn't because he's famous and rich that I
love him. It's because of who he is..." Serena
whispered. "It's because he's sweet and romantic,
and thoughtful and kind..."

**Flashback**

"Where are we going, Darien?" Serena asked as she sat
in his car. He had blindfolded her, and wouldn't even
give her a clue as to where he was taking her.

"It's a surprise Sere." He replied, reaching over to
caress her cheek. "For our one month anniversary."

"I can't believe it's only been a month. It feels like
forever." She sighed happily.

"I'm glad you feel that way." Darien told her. "I do
too. Oh! We're here."

"Really?! Where?" Serena asked.

"Just a minute." Darien got out of the car and shut the
door. He came around the other side and opened Serena's
door. Taking her hand, he helped her out of the car
and lead her along a path.

"Darien..." Serena said, afraid she was going to fall.

"Relax Serena. Trust me." Darien whispered into her
ear. Serena relaxed against him and let him lead her.

"Here." Darien whispered, pulling off the blindfold.
Serena gasped. She was standing in front of a beautiful
water fall. She could feel the cool spray on her face
and hair. Looking around, she saw huge trees
surrounding them, and a picnic basket on the ground.

"This is so romantic!" Serena threw her arms around
Darien, hugging him tightly.

"I love you Serena." Darien whispered, completely out
of no where. Serena pulled back and looked him in the
eye.

"Darien..." She whispered. "I love you too."

**End Flashback**

"He told me he loved me. It was on our one month
anniversary. We were at some waterfall, I have no
clue how he discovered it, or how to even get back if
I ever wanted to." Serena sniffed.

"Serena, he used you."

"Why would he do something like that?" Serena asked.

"Well look at you! Your gorgeous! And intelligent,
and kind. And you trusted him." Mina replied.

"So did you." Serena pointed out.

"True." Mina sighed.

"I'm sorry Mina. Let's just watch the movie, k?" Serena
asked, turning her attention back to the screen.

"Sure thing Serena."

**Flashback**

Serena smiled at Darien from her spot back stage. Darien
glanced at her and smiled devilishly.

"I'd like everyone to meet a person that I know. She's
the most magnificent woman I have ever met, and I love
her dearly. Her name is Serena." Darien walked over
and took Serena's hand, pulling her on stage with him.
Serena was blushing furiously.

"Darien!" She hissed at him before she found herself
thrust in front of the microphone. "Hi."

The crowd went wild. Screams erupted from the utterly
still crowd. Darien wrapped his arms around Serena and
began to sing his latest hit, a love song.

**End Flashback**

Mina was laughing hysterically, while Serena smiled.

"This is the funniest movie I have ever seen!" Mina
cried. Tears were streaming down her cheeks she was
laughing so hard.

"You alway say that, Mina." Serena commented.

"Well it's always true." Mina retorted. Serena shook
her head and stood up, stretching.

"I'm going to get a drink. Do you want anything?"
Mina silently held up her glass, eyes still glued to
the screen. Serena took the glass and headed into
the kitchen.

**Flashback**

"Why on Earth did you do that?!" Serena asked, looking
at Darien. Darien laughed at her.

"The crowd wanted to meet you, Sere. The world wants
to know!" He exclaimed, then held up a paper. The
headline read 'Darien O'Malley's Mysterious Girlfriend?'
and the picture was of Darien and Serena, though her
face was blocked.

"How did they get this picutre?" Serena asked, grabbing
the paper from him.

"Reporters follow me everywhere." He shrugged. "But they
can never get in here."

The two were seated in Darien's penthouse apartment.

"I would hate that." Serena snuggled up against him,
the paper lying forgotten on the floor.

"Mmmm..." Darien replied.

**End Flashback**

"Put in the next movie!" Mina exlaimed. Serena picked
it up and looked at the title.

"Mina! It's a horror film! What were you thinking
when you got this? I can't afford to loose a weeks
worth of sleep." Serena glared at her friend. "We
aren't watching this one."

"Sorry Sere." Mina giggled. "What else do we have?"

"Sailor V, Sailor V II, The Return of Sailor V, Sailor
V; The Final Days, Sailor V: The Final Showdown,
Sailor V After... Mina?" Serena raised an eyebrow at
her friend? Mina smiled innocently.

"Yes?"

"Honestly, girl!" Serena sighed, then picked up the
only movie without a V in the title.

**Flashback**

"Serena? I'm going to Italy for a while." Darien
glanced at her from his place in front of the window.

"Really? I've heard it's lovely there. Where exactly
are you going?" She asked, smiling up at him from his
couch.

"Around." He replied evasively.

"Oh." Serena replied. "When will you be back?"

"Not for a while." Darien told her. "Serena... I don't
want to go away with ties and loose ends."

"What do you mean?" Serena asked cautiously. Darien
sighed.

"I mean that I don't want to have a girlfriend waiting
for me here. I mean that I want to break up."

**End Flashback**

Serena's mind drifted back to the day Darien had broken
up with her. She remembered running from his apartment
in tears, not looking back at him. She had slammed his
door so hard, she heard the shattering of glass as
something, a picture, fell from his wall.

She hadn't felt bad, either.
She hadn't seen him again, except on tv when he went to
award ceremonies, and he always had some blonde on his
arm. Always a different one, she remembered.

For weeks afterward she was a wreck. No one was able
to pull her from her pit of sorrow. Her friends were
all so worried about her, and her family had nearly
gone ballistic.

Now, almost a year later, Serena still wasn't over it.

"True heart break." Mina had commented.

"Almost as though a bond had been broken." Raye had
said.

Serena didn't try to label it, she just knew it hurt
like hell.

"Hey Serena?" Mina asked, pulling her from her reverie.
"You okay?"

"Hmm? Yeah, I'm alright." She smiled. "I guess so,
anyway."

"You seemed kinda spaced there for a minute."

"I was just thinking..."

"About...?" Mina asked.

"Stuff... Darien, mostly." She admitted.

"Forget him Serena! He's not worth it!" Mina
exclaimed.

"I know Mina... I know."

**Flashback**

"And in other news tonight, Irish singing sensation
Darien O'Malley will be having another concert at
Cherry Hall. Our very own Nissa Johnson was on the
scene to speak with him." The screen flashed to a hotel
room with Darien and some reporter.

"It's been a while since you've been back in London,
hasn't it?" Nissa asked.

"True."

"Why's that?"

"Personal reasons." Darien replied. He wasn't being his
usually charismatic self, and Serena wondered why.

"Rumour has it that you've been avoiding a certain
Serena.."

"Not true." He cut her off. The reporter raised an
eyebrow.

"Well, anything new you want to share with your fans?"
Nissa asked him.

"Not really."

"Well thanks, Darien, for taking the time to talk
to us. This is Nissa Johnson reporting live from
Sheridan hotel, and now back to the desk."

Serena had flicked off her tv at that point, not
caring about other news that night.

Darien certainly wasn't being himself, and she was
curious as to why.

**End Flashback**

Serena's cell phone sent a high pitched ring soaring
through Mina's apartment. Serena dashed to her bag,
next to her jacket at the door and answered it.

"Hello?"

There was a long pause, then finally "Serena."

Serena gasped, knowing full well who it was. She didn't
say anything, deciding to wait to see what he had to say
first.

"Can I talk to you?" He asked.

"I won't hang up, it that's what your asking." She
replied.

"Can I meet you somewhere and talk in person?"

Sernea paused before replying.

"I'm not sure."

"Please?"

"Why? After all this time, why have you called me?"

"Please Serena, meet me at the park, where the
waterfall is." He asked. "In an hour." He hung up
quickly, before Serena could reply. Serena shut off her
phone, then turned to Mina.

"It was Darien. He wants me to meet him.

**

Within the hour, Serena found herself standing on the
edge of the cliff facing the waterfall. She was early,
having left almost immediately. She didn't want to be
late.

"Thanks for coming." The voice was so soft and
unexpected that Serena almost fell forward. She turned
around to find Darien looking at her. He was dressed
in black jeans, a blue shirt and a black leather jacket.

"I came. What do you want?" She asked, cutting right
to the chase.

"You." Darien replied simply. Serena looked at him in
disbelief.

"What?!" She cried. "Are you nuts! It's been a year,
Darien. What makes you think I even care anymore?"

"Because I still care about you, and I know you cared
at least as deeply, if not more."

"Then why did you break up with me?" She asked. Darien
turned away so she could only see is profile.

"I was falling in love with you, fast and deep." Darien
told her, then paused.

Serena studied his profile, trying to focus on his words
rather than how attractive he was.

"Who can fall in love with the whole world watching,
Serena? I couldn't love you and have this career and
keep them seperate, and I didn't want you involved in
this career. It's hell." Darien told her.

"So what's different now?" She asked.

"My career..." His voice was soft, barely audible over
the wind. "It's over. I'm giving it up."

Serena froze. He was giving up his career for her?

"What?" She whispered. Darien turned to face her.

"What good is a career and money if I don't have anyone
to share it with? I'd rather be poor and with you, than
rich and alone." Darien told her. "I love you, Serena.
I don't want to live without you."

Darien was suddenly standing in front of her. Gently
he cupped her cheek in one of his hands and tilted her
head up.

"I don't care about anything but you. When I was gone,
you occupied my thoughts day and night. I just wanted
to be with you, to hold you and kiss you and love you."

"Darien..." Serena whispered, before throwing her arms
around his neck and pressing her body against his. "I
love you! I love you so much! The entire time you were
gone I was a mess! I couldn't stop crying and keep it
together. I couldn't thinking about you and..."

Darien captured her lips with his, effectively shutting
her up for a long long time.
