Red Fox Oni Armor | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This is one of the most abitious projects to date. A suit of armour made as close to period stylings as Mick and I can currently. The armor is being made for Paul Kidd an Aussie fight choreographer and general creator of things sci-fi/fantasy. The suit is for his personal use but currently he is working on a fuedal Japanese TV series. Pretty sweet. If you want to see some cool stuff check out Paul's site. right now its (the armor) in early stages but hopeing to have new pics up weekly. Im thinking once its done, Mick and I may make a Gray Fox Oni armor for a certain friend/teacher/brother of mine. those who know know. ;) -Joe |

Heres Mick working out some patterning and fitting issues. With our Japanese armor 'bible' Arms and armor of the Samurai by I Bottomley & A P Hopson. Micks been doing the bulk of the labor thus far while I've been guiding the project. The diligence of the historical accuracy will have alot to do with Micks research ,Archeology grad's are good to have around ;) Recently Mick was able to get into the Milwaukee Public Museum and go through their stashed away collection of Japanese armor and weaponry. |

The Hiadate in rough. the edges need to be trimmed back, the plates arent dyed yet. eventualy they will be an orangish brown. I'll be mixing orange and light brown dyes together for it. and the plates will be laced together in a wide lace. moving from white at the top to black along the bottom.
Tsuneate in rough. ok so all the plates will be dyed an orangish brown. from here out lets call in an assumption. lol. anyways they will be laced in a wide black lice. and again the backing (burlap is the bottom layer cloth on top) has yet to be trimmed to size.
Heres a rough cut of the do. theres missing pieces yet to be cut out here, but these are the base pieces.
Heres a pic of the Hiadate again. This time the individual plates have been dyed. The Dye used is a mixture of Red, Yellow, and Light Brown. The color will change slightly once the plates have been laqcuered. Right now Mick has the pieces at his shop where he's drilling the lacing holes. Once he's done i'll lacquer all the plates, and then we'll start lacing.
