Mindy also had an appointment last week to check on her c-section stitches and she's doing just fine! Still a bit sore but with the help of some prescription medication, she's out and about. She only gained 13 pounds with the pregnancy and has now lost 22 pounds! But that's about where her weight should be, anyway, so she feels great!
Mindy's dad and mom were here for a little over a month but just left back for San Diego yesterday. They were such a great help to us!
Hunter's dad and mom are now proud first-time grandparents! And Hunter's sister, Nancy, is also a proud Auntie!
Here's a bit of detail on the labor and delivery:
Chase inherited Mindy's dilly-dallying personality and decided to stay in the womb past his due date of May 30. We scheduled an induction on Thursday, June 7th. But since Chase also inherited his Daddy's rebellious streak, Chase decided he was finally ready to come into the world just before being induced. Mindy's water broke at 4am on June 6th. (Note that it was a full moon and a few people had told us that women tended to go into labor during full moons. Mindy later confirmed with a nurse at the hospital that this really is true!) No contractions were happening so we took our time getting to the hospital. Mindy was given pitocin to start contractions at about 7am. After about an hour, she was given an epidural and proceeded to sleep through the rest of the contractions. At 4:30pm, Mindy was dilated to 8cm but stayed there until 9:30pm. We finally opted for a c-section since no progress was being made. It was just past midnight by the time Mindy went into the operating room due to 2 emergency c-sections before her. At 12:29am, June 7th, Chase finally showed up! We found out that the reason he stopped progressing at 8cm was because he was sunny side up (he was head first but was facing the wrong direction)!
We didn't know whether he was going to be a boy or girl. Mindy thought he would be a boy but Hunter was convinced that he'd be a girl. We're both thrilled that he's who he is and that he's healthy! Next time, maybe we'll have a girl! It was such fun not knowing the sex until the last minute, we might do it again for the next baby!
We named him Michael Chase but we will be calling him Chase. Michael Chase just seems to flow better than Chase Michael. We chose Chase because it was a name we both liked, then later found out that it is Old French for hunter! And we chose Michael because we wanted a good, normal name for him.
Chase looks pretty much like Hunter when he was a baby, it's amazing! All that hair definitely came from Hunter's genes 'cause Mindy was bald when she was a baby! Chase has Mindy's chubby cheeks and brown eyes, though.
