NSR mini's bigger brother...the NSR250!!!This race bike belongs to "Cyber" It was race day at PIR.
Me and my dad just cruising around on nice Summer evening.
A picture right after the NSR80 motor was installed (that's a test pipe).
This is an early 1991 Honda NSR50 in original factory Rothmans color scheme. My dad was very lucky to purchase this bike already imported into the states!
The story goes like this: I was in Japan for two weeks visiting my friend Jamie. Then one day my dad emailed me saying that he just bought a NSR50. I said "yeah right" cause I thought he was just joking with me. Then came the pictures to prove it! I was so suprised! Unfortunatly this bike was missing a lot of street stuff. It started it's life out as a race bike in Japan. The bike was race prepped meaning all the lights, turn signals and street wiring had been removed and sadly thrown away. Luckily I was in Japan so it was no problem buying the parts. The funny thing was that the day before my dad emailed me about this NSR50 missing the street parts, me, Jamie, Tak and some other friends went to a NSR mini race track for some practice. Get this....we found a complete rear light bracket off of an NSR50 that some guy had stripped for a race bike!!!! That's right...it was just laying in the bushes with a bunch of other mini bike and scooter parts! This bike is really all about luck!! :-) |

This bike's power was surprisingly good for just a 50cc (the previous Japanese owner tuned the engine very well!) With the performace Power Pipe, the engine needed to be revved up high to produce power-good for the track, but not good for street. I then made a powervalve for it. It sure helped a lot and I was very happy. Then I had the oppurtunity to purchase a complete 1997 NSR80 motor. The NSR80 has more power (about 12 HP stock). I did some modifications to the engine, used a lighter weight flywheel, installed a Daytona Turbo Filter, PowerPipe race chamber, and 20mm carb. Now the bike is just amazing! It can do power wheelies!! This Rothmans NSR is now retired from racing and will be my dad's street bike. Check out the group rides section of my page for plenty of pics! Maybe one of these days I would like to restore this bike. |
