The Longest Day In Boston

Introduction

Angela Alexandria Harper is duh Seamus Harper’s younger sister. But Harper doesn’t know that, unfortunately. Mostly the story takes place on earth. The main character is of course Angie short for Angela. Here’s some background information on Angie she’s 13. The only family that she’s got is a cousin that is an over obsessive drinker. And an older brother that doesn’t even know her. Does her life suck or what?  The story is twisted because Angie thinks one thing while everyone else thinks of something else.

                                                Chapter One

“Ok, I’m going to count to ten and find you!” said Angie

“Alright start counting,” said her brother. Her brother has been looking after Angie since she was born. Their parents were killed before she even had a chance to know them. To this day she will never forget what happened that day 8 long years ago. They were playing hide and seek. Angie was the seeker. And her brother was the hider. He wasn’t a very good hider though; she could see him hiding behind a bush. Too bad the bush wasn’t big enough so he could hide his whole body behind it. Angie yelled, “I found you!”

“I guess you did Angie,” said her brother.

“Want to play again?” she said

“No we’ve been playing for hours.” He said in an exhausted tone.

Later that day he was talking to some girl that Angie didn’t even know, she looked like she didn’t live here. And she was for sure that she didn’t look good in red hair. He came back inside went in to Brendan’s room for a minuet, and said good buy, love ya, and see ya soon. And left down the street with the red head. Brendan came down the stairs. He looked very messed up. Than he said “you get me something to eat”

            “Why?” Angie said.

            “Because I said so.”

“That doesn’t give me a point.”

“Don’t act smart with me.” Said Brendan in anger. Angie quickly changed the subject.

“So ware did he go? I mean it sounded like he was going on a vacation. Can we do that?”

            “Whose he?”

            “Harper”

“He won’t be back for a long time.”

“How long? And did he say when he was going to come back?”

“Harper left with the red head. They were going to be in space for a long time. It sounded like he was never coming back. He told me to look after you. Well I’m going to be in my room if you need me. Which hopefully not.”

She went to her room and started to cry, than she said with tears running down her cheeks” why would he do this to me out of all people.” Than at that very moment Angie woke up in an instant and muttered “I don’t have a brother.”

Chapter Two

“Harper I need you our engine is failing and I need you to fix it!” said Beka.

“Um... Beka... there’s a slight problem. You see I have nothing to fix it with.” Harper said in a small voice.

“You what!” she said in anger.

“Well I don’t know what to do. The only thing that I can think of is stopping at the next planet that we pass, so I can get something to fix it with.”

“Right. That next planet would be... Earth. Good. Now go tell Dylan.”

“Why Earth? Is that a joke? Just my luck” said complaining Harper.

“You said the nearest planet, now go!” said Beka.

Harper walked very slowly to wear Dylan was. He hesitated a moment and than said “Dylan”

            “Yes” said Dylan.

“We’re out of supplies to fix the engine so... we’re...stopping... at Earth to get the supplies.” Said Harper in a shaking voice.

“Ok. Tell me when we land.”

                                                A few minutes later...

“Dylan we’re going to be landing shortly.”

“Ok.’’ he said without a thought in the world. And shortly they landed. Harper wouldn’t want to come out so Beka threw him out.

“Nothings changed much, since the last time I’ve been here.” Said Harper.

“Harper!” said a girl in a curious matter.

            “Yes.” Harper said.

“You know Harper?” said Beka to the girl.

“Of course I know Harper. I’m his sister.” She said

            “You’re Harper’s sister,” said Dylan.

            “Yes”

“Harper can I talk to you for a moment?” said Beka.

“Ah ok.” Said Harper. They walked in to an empty ally and started to talk

“Harper you never told me had a sister.” Said Beka.

“Well you see... ah...the truth is... I didn’t know I had a sister. Or either that I forgot that I had a sister.” Said Harper in confusion.

“I don’t believe that. Let’s hope you didn’t forget her. And why would you do something like that anyway.” Beka said slapping him over the head.

“I guess Brendan never told me about her. But he would never do that to me. I know he would never ever keep something this important to himself.”  He said.

            “And,” said Beka angry.

“Well I never herd of having a younger sister when I left so whatever they were talking about, they would take care of it. And then my mom and dad died, so I was still clueless because I still didn’t know I had a sister, so I figured the same thing before I left. And Brendan never told me anything. So I figured nothing to worry.”

            “Well thought wrong.”

“I know.” As Beka and Harper were talking Dylan was asking Harper’s sister some questions.

“So I don’t suppose there are any schools around here?” said Dylan

            “What’s a school?” said Harper’s sister.

“Never mind, so ah... who took care of you when your brother was gone?”

            “Our cousin Brendan.”

“Then can I have a word with him?”

            “No,” she said very quickly.

            “Why?”

“Because... ah...um...well... how can I put this. Ah Brendan is an over obsessive drinker.”

“Has he a bused you in any way, because that is serious.”

            “Well-“

“Ok, Dylan I asked Harper some questions. Good thing he gave me a truthful answer. And now I’ve asked him to spill to you and his sister.” Said Beka.

“Well you see... I never told my mom that I was leaving home and- “Harper said fiddling with his hands.

“Tell them the rest Harper.” Said Beka

“And well I never was told that I had a sister until today. I mean that I knew that something was going on, but I never what it was, and Brendan would have told me what was going on but he never did, it’s not like him at all.” Said Harper.

“Than we do need a word with him than,” said Dylan.

“He could have forgotten, he does have other things on his mind,” said Harper’s sister.

            “Like what?” said Harper.

“I don’t know but I rarely see him which is a good thing to me at least,” she said.

            “What’s wrong with Brendan?”

“What’s wrong with him is that he doesn’t know what my name is and he calls me kid all the time and it gets really annoying. And he gets really drunk all the time, and he doesn’t care at all about me, it seems like nobody does. They all seem to hate me for some reason. They all think I should die or something.”

             “Anything else?” said Harper.

“Well it sounds like she had a rough time here.” Said Beka.

“By the way what’s your name, just so we know who you are?” asked Dylan

“Angela Alexandria Harper, Angie for short.” Said Angie.

“I have an idea.” Said Dylan.

“What?” said Angie in a curious way.

“Well I think that you can come on board with us on the Andromeda” said Dylan.

“Are you sure that I can? It would be cool to get out of hear.” Said Angie excited.

“But the choice is up to your brother, you can stay with us since he needs to fix the engine. Than after that he can make up his decision.” Said Dylan

“Why does he have to make the decision, cause what I’ve heard he really can’t make up his mid about anything.” Said Angie.

“She dose have a point.” Said Beka.

“Hey, that’s not true well sort of.” Said Harper.

            “See.” Angie said.

“Well I sure that Harper will make up his mind this time around.” Said Dylan.

            “Are you sure?” said Angie

            “I’m sure.” Dylan said.

“Ah... Dylan can I talk to you for a moment.” Said Harper. They walked to the ally where Beka and Harper were talking.

            “What?” Dylan said

“Well I don’t want to hurt her feelings if I say no.”

“Well let’s hope you don’t make the wrong decision.”

“Yeah sure,” said Harper. They walked back to wear Beka and Angie were.

“Well or ship needs repairing do you know where we can find some place to find parts.” Said Beka.

“You’re looking at the person who could fix that. I have practically anything you need.” Said Angie

            “You do!” said Harper.

            “Yeah,” said Angie

“I thought that girls didn’t have an interest in mechanical stuff,” said Harper and Beka hit him in the stomach.

“Oh than you thought wrong. Its in the blood didn’t Brendan tell you.”

            “No.” Said Harper.

“Harper look after your sister. Dylan and I are going to talk to Brendan.” Said Beka

“Oh he’s a big drinker, he probably won’t even know what you’re talking about.” Said Angie

“Well that will change once we’re done with him.” Said Dylan. And than they left to talk to Brendan.

                                                            Chapter three

“How come I didn’t see you the last time I came here?” said Harper.

“Oh that’s because I ran away.” Said Angie

            “Why? “

“Well Brendan got mad at me and I got mad at him and I just left when he was busy.”

            “And he didn’t care?”

“No, He just gets so rapped up in something and forgets I exists. “

“How many times have you done this?”

“Whenever he gets mad, which is always.

            “Where do you go?”

            “You should know.”

            “Well I don’t”

“To bad, Brendan told me along time ago that when you want to blow off steam or just get away that you just go to your safe spot where know one can see you or want to find you, or some other stuff.” Said Angie

“Has anything changed since the rise up?” asked Harper.

“Not really, except everyone’s more freer than before.”

            “That’s good”

“Yeah, I like being freer,” said Angie.

                                                Chapter Four

“Dylan I think this is it.” Said Beka

            “What makes you say that?”

“Well look at the sign.” The sign said: BRENDONS HOTEL AND APARTMENTS.

“That would explain it.” Said Dylan.

“Hi, are you Brendan?” said Beka

“Yes, do you want to rent a room for the night.” Said Brendan

“No we’re fine, we just came here because rumor has it that you’re an alcoholic.” Said Dylan.

“Yah, so what if I am, 50% of the people are alcoholics.” Said Brendan.

“But it’s not all fun and games, if you have a right to watch over a kid.” Said Dylan.

“Cause when you have to watch over a kid, the worst thing you want to do is make them feel like they’re useless. Do you get what I’m saying Brendan?” said Beka.

“Who are you and what do you want from me?” said Brendan.

“We want to know if you have heard of Angie Harper?” said Dylan.

“Yeah, she’s my cousin. I was told to look after her when she was born because Harper left.” Said Brendan.

“Well you haven’t been doing your job.” Said Dylan

“And all the other stuff we just said before have to deal with you.” Said Beka.

            “Maybe you’re right-,” said Brendan

“We are right, because we have the right sources.” Said Dylan

“Ok, ok now just tell me, what do you want from me?” said Brendan

                                                            Chapter Five

“So what kind of parts do you have?” said Harper

“You’ll see, but first I have to inspect before I can give.”

“Hear we are. Ain’t she pretty?” said Harper in happiness.

“Yeah and Big too!” said Angie looking awe.

“You think this is big, wait till you see the Andromeda” said Harper.

            “The what?”

“The Andromeda, the ship I’ve been on for a long time.” While Angie was looking at the other ship, Harper was nagging her for the longest time and then she gave up on Harper nagging her so she took him to the parts area, he got the parts and fixed the problem. He told Angie that he was going some were and he’d be right back but that didn’t happen.

                                                Chapter Six

“Why did you come here in the first place?” asked Brendan

“Our ship broke down and it’s being fixed now.” Said Dylan. Before Beka could speak Harper cut in there conversation.

“I can take it from hear.” Said Harper.

“Harper what are you doing hear?” said Dylan.

“Because the last couple of times I’ve been here or even talked to you, you never told me I had a sister. Instead of telling me you decide to keep it a secret and treat her like a piece of crap. Well I had enough of you not telling me the truth and all your stupid promises. You could never keep them anyway. My next complaint is did you promise’s her that you were going to tell me that she was my sister?” Harper said his voice was rising in anger.

“Because I never had the time.” Said Brendan quietly.

“What, cause I can’t hear you!” said Harper

“Because I never had the time.” Brendan said louder.

“That’s crap, you have all the time in the world. You could’ve told me when you were drunk but I don’t think that occurred to you!”

            “Harper calm down!” said Beka.

“Ok do you want to know the real truth? Because I knew you wanted a younger sibling in the first place. Your mom was going to tell you but she never got to that, because you left before she could tell you and then she died. So I was left with the job to take care of your sister after she was born. One day she heard me over talking about you. So I had no choice but to tell her. It was not easy. But she took a few days off o cool of when I told her so of course she got mad at me. I should have told you that you had a sister at your mom and dad’s funeral. And I didn’t want to tell ya than because of the lost of your parents. And when I wanted to tell you that she was your sister, she was never around.” Said Brendan

“Oh she’s off fixing the ship.” Said Harper.

“Not no more she’s not.” Said Angie “is it true.”

            “Is what true?” said Harper

“Don’t act smart to me, because I heard almost everything.”

“Why don’t we talk out side.Said Harper. They walked out of sight from the rest and Harper talked first. “Look Brendan never told me I had a sister but u can figure that out your self.”

            “Why?”

“Because he had a good reason and it was the truth.”

“TELL ME.”    She said in outrage.

            “NO”

            “TELL ME WHY!”

“YOU WANT TO KNOW WHY, I’LL TELLYOU. BRENDON KNEW I

NEVER WANTED A SISTER OR A BROTHER IN THE FIRST PLACE AND OUR MOM NEVER HAD THE CHANCE TO TELL ME THAT I WAS GOING TO HAVE A SISTER!”

“YOU NEVER WANTED ME AS YOUR SISTER, SO I WAS A MISTAKE RIGHT?”

            “YES.”

“FINE SINCE YOU DON’T WANT A SISTER, I’LL JUST LEAVE!” and she walked away.

                                                Chapter Seven

“So?” said Beka, Dylan and Brendan had anxious looks on there faces.

“She left. She was really mad, she didn’t say were she was going. So I don’t know were she is,” said Harper with his face facing the ground.

“She’s out there by herself when we still need to sort out everything, why did you let her run away? She doesn’t know half of what's going on and you just let her run away?” said Dylan trying to control his anger.

“Yes,” said Harper in a plain and simple voice.

That’s when Dylan lost it. “WHY!”

“She gets mad and goes and runs away,” Brendan said.

“So you do something about her?” Beka said in sarcasm.

“Your point?” said Brendan

“Never mind,” said Beka.

“Getting back to the subject,” Dylan said breaking in, “Harper you’re going to find her. By yourself.”

“But don’t I get any help!” said Harper

“You lost her, you find her!” said Dylan. Beka and Dylan walked out and Harper started swearing under his breath.

“Here,” said Brendan

“What’s in it?” asked Harper.

“Just something I thought would help straiten things out for you,” replied Brendan.

“Thanks Bren, I’ll use it later, when I have the time,” said Harper.

“Anytime, just I would use it now if I were you,” Brendan said. Harper and him looked at each other for a moment and then Brendan left. Harper then stared at what Brendan gave him, and ran out of the room to the Maru. He got to the Maru and went inside and went into the command center and stuck the thing Brendan gave him and put it in his data port. When he stuck the thing in his data port he saw Boston as it was but there was something different about it. As he looked around he saw people coming and going out of different places but the one thing that he didn’t see people coming and going was what looked like a junk yard, but had a bunch of old metal piled up in one area. It looked very similar to him before. Harper looked around more and saw him and Brendan walking down the street. Harper caught up to him and Brendan followed them in to another area that was inside, and saw for the first time in the last ten years or so his mom and dad sitting at a round table waiting for him. When his mother looked up at him she said “Hi baby, “she said in a sweet voice.

“Mom you don’t have to call me that anymore, by the way you look tired do you want aspirin or something?” said Harper.

“Oh no I’m fine, its just something that we’ve wanted to tell you for over a month now and it will have a very big impact on your life our lives –“said Harper’s mother

“Mom look something has come up, but don’t worry, its nothing bad. Its just me going up to space, for a little visit,” Harper said with uncertainty.

“YOU WHAT!” said Harper’s dad in outrage.

“I’m going up to space for a visit,” said Harper in a small voice.

“AND when are you coming back?” asked Harper’s dad.

“In a couple of month, I think ten months or so, but don’t worry I’ll be back before anything bad can happen,” Harper said.

“Ok good maybe we’ll have a surprise for you when you get back. By the way when do you leave?” asked Harper’s mom.

“I think later on there are some people waiting for me on a ship called the Eureka Maru,” Harper said.

“Well than incase we don’t see you until ten months lets just say goodbye. We love you Harper, and be safe, don’t do anything that you wouldn’t do, ok. Bye sweet hart,” Harper’s mom said almost crying.

“Same here just when your in space find yourself a girl, and bring her back hear, so we don’t have to listen to Claire’s lies about you two. Love ya son, go out and have fun,” said Harper’s dad.

“I love you all too, its just nothings going to happen to me and I’m going to come home in about ten months and see all of you here, ok bye, love you all,” said Harper. He left and so did the other Harper, he followed himself all the way to the big metal pile, he went in side and saw like a little room that you can stay in for the night. While watching the other Harper he said to himself, “ Now I remember this place, Brendan and I sort of built this place together a long time a go, this was our runaway spot, but how does Angie know?” said Harper. The next thing he knew was he was in the Maru sitting on the ground. He got up and ran outside and looked around. Then he saw the metal pile ran to it and went inside. The place didn’t look much different than when he just saw it, but it had a few new things. He looked around and saw Angie sitting on the ground looking at him then Harper said,”Hey.”

“Hey, how’d you find me?” she asked.

                                                            Chapter Eight

“Let’s just say I had a little help from Brendan,” Harper said smiling.

“Really, cool, this is a cool place, did you live here?” asked Angie.

“No, it was my runaway spot when I was still here, when mom and dad were still alive,” said Harper.

“Really how did mom and dad look back then?” asked Angie.

“Young and pretty. I swear you look almost like mom. Hey go over to that table over there and open the drawer. Angie went to the table and opened the drawer. She looked up at Harper, and picked up a small box, it almost looked like a jewelry box. She looked at Harper again and he said to her, “you do know what’s in there don’t you?”

“No, I don’t, I didn’t know there was a drawer here, until now, and I didn’t know about any of this until now, and how come no one’s told me about this until now?” Angie said in curiosity.

“I am now, come over here and give me the box, now you don’t know what’s in the box? No well what’s in this box is mom’s necklace. I’ve seen her were it almost every day of her life and I know that she would have given this to you someday if she was still alive, but I know that I never wanted a sister, but she wanted one to give this to you. I know, I know, how do I know? Well I’ve heard her say this over a thousand times and no matter how badly I refused, I still know in the end that she wanted to give this to her baby girl, just like her mom did, and so on. So since mom’s not here anymore neither is dad, I’ll do the owners. This necklace is to you from a gift from our mother, Mrs. Jennifer Harper, given to her on her wedding day by her mother and so on. Now the question is do you Angela Alexandria Harper promise not to loose this family air loom? And if so will you suffer all consequences?”

“Yes, but what are the consequences?”

“I dunno but we’ll have to watch the wedding to see because I forgot. But anyways this necklace is now yours, and maybe someday you’ll give it to your daughter.” Harper handed her the necklace. Angie looked at the necklace, which was silver with purple stones on it. Harper than said, “can we go back now, because I don’t like the fact that Dylan and Beka are mad at me.”

“Sure, is that a bad thing that they are mad at you?” asked Angie.

“Very much so, it’s also very sad,” said Harper.

                                                            Chapter Nine

“Oh thank god you found her,” said Beka.

“Wasn’t that bad, with a little help from Brendan.” Said Harper.

“Well our ship is fixed thanks to you two, now its time to go back home,” said Dylan.

“Oh yeah that reminds me, have you figured it out yet Harper?” asked Beka

“Oh yeah the decision, um yeah I think that will be ok if Angie could come on bored with us, “said Harper.

            “Really, are you sure, because-“

“I made the right decision, your my sister and I’m suppose to be in charge of you so were I go you go, understand, than in that case lets get some of your stuff, say our good buy’s and head for the Andromeda,” said Harper.

“So you’re both leaving me what am I suppose to do?” said Brendan.

“I dunno, look after your self and have a good life, and I’ll see you next time with Angie,” said Harper.

“I know we haven’t had the best time together, but I will miss it here and you, but maybe some time I’ll help everybody be free from this place,” said Angie.

“Maybe you will, kid, so I’ll see you next time than?” asked Brendan.

“You can count on it, “Angie said smiling and she ran to catch up with Beka, Dylan, and Harper in the Eureka Maru.

“You scared? Because its far worse out there than it is here,” said Beka.

“I’m not scared,” said Angie. The took off, and then she said, ”the world, or the universe is an adventure and it may be scary, but that’s just the hole part of the adventure just waiting to happen.” They just left Earth heading back to the Andromeda. For Beka, Dylan, and Harper it’s going home, but for Angela Alexandria Harper, it is her new home, and her new adventure. Angie said to them, “this has must’ve been the longest day in Boston.”
