Buddha's Teachings Continues : "Noble Eightfold Path" Solution : Right Understanding : Inorder to acheived right understanding we must not rely on books or hear what people say but must examine and judge the Truth with one's own experience. Therefore we must also know the meaning of what we has judge and examine. Wisdom arise when right understanding acheive. Right Thought : Inorder to acheive good conduct we must acheive right thought because thought related to our speech and action. We must also refrains from sensual pleasure e.g. dancing, music, etc. because that will give rise to unwholesome thoughts. To remove desire and greed we must thought of loving-kindness and compassion. Wisdom arise when right thought acheive. Right Speech : We must not quarrel, lying and gossips inorder to acheive right speech. Right Action : Right action can be practice by respect others. This means that we must have good relationships between friends and family members. Right Livelihood : We must not cause suffering and sad to others. This means that we should not make weapons, killing, selling things which cause others life and take away others welfare. Right Effect : Effect is the root of acheivement. If we want to swim accross the river, we must make the effect to cross but not just stand there and think. Therefore no matter how great the Buddha's teachings was we must practice by our own effect. |

Right Mindfulness : To have a mindful mind we must not be distracted at all times. Right mindfulness means to be awareness and concentrate on anything we do and speech. Right Meditation : Meditation can help a scatter mind to concentrate. Meditation is simple concentrated awareness. We can learn to develop our concentration by producing a noe point mind. One pointedness is a concentrated state in which all the faculties andmental powers are focussed and governed by the will-power and directed towards one point or one object. A calm mind is necessary if we want to have a deep look into ourself and a deep understanding of ourself and our world. Note : Through the practice of Right Speech, Right Action and Right Livelihood we will acheive Good Conduct. Through the practice of Right Effect, Right Mindfulness and Right Meditation we will acheive Mental Development. Through the practice of Right Understanding and Right Thought we will acheive Wisdom. The Five Precepts When you are in the army, you will have to follow the rules and regulations that have been set. Similary when you want to become a Buddhist by taking the Threefold Refuge, you will have to follow the rules of Buddhism by observe the Five Precepts. By observing the Five Precepts will help a Buddhist cultivate Good Conduct and refrain from unwholesome actions. Even if only one of the Five Precepts is successfully acheive, you have already lay a good foundation for happiness and also increase the chance of good fortune in the future. But you must try to acheive more precepts inorder to increase the chance of happiness and good fortune. The Five Precepts : 1) Refrain from killing 2) Refrain from telling lies 3) Refrain from taking intoxicants 4) Refrain from taking what is not given 5) Refrain from sexual misconduct Solutions : 1) Refrain from Killing : ( Cultivates Loving Kindness ) Non-killing is extended to all living beings. It means not only refrain from killing other people but also animals. Do not kill animals whether because of living, money, etc. because every living beings are alike in fearing death. Therefore everyone should shows respect for life. When ones protect life, one acheive the attitude of loving kindness. 2) Refrain from telling lies : ( Cultivates Truthfulness ) To acheive the virtue of truthfulness, we should not tell lies even is for fun. The Buddha had said before that no evil a liar cannot do, therefore we must not tell lies. When we shows respect for truth, there will be no misunderstandings, quarrels, and frightings. Ther will be peace in the world. 3) Refrain from taking intoxicants : ( Cultivates good mental health ) Taking alcoholic drinks and drugs will cause our mind confused, restless and unable to control our own action. Its also destroy our mental health |
and cause accident and injury. When accidents occur, it cause suffering and unhappiness to ourself and others. Therefore if we refrain from taking intoxicants one have a good mental health as well as awareness and attentive minds. 4) Refrain from taking what is not given : ( Cultivates respect for the right to own things and generosity ) We will want to have the right to own property of ours, therefore we should not steel or take things which belong to others. This shows respect for the right to own things. It also means avoids misuse money which belonging to others, parent or public. This does not implies that we should be sellfish but should be generous to gives to the poor and the need. The best of all gifts ia the gift of the Dhamma because it can help people to end suffering and attain happiness. So we should also generous in the production and distribution of the Dhamma books. 5) Refrain from Sexual Misconduct : ( Cultivates Good Reputation And Happy Family ) This show respect for people and also human relationships. Sexual misconduct cause suffering for others and ourself. When we committing adultery it cause us to have bad reputation and also creates enemies. Ti can also cause unhappy family to others and ourself. Therefore we are to be faithful to our huaband or wife. The Eight Precepts The Eight Precepts are the combination of the Five Precepts with another tree precepts. These tree precepts are more difficult for Buddhist lay followers to follow. The Eight Precepts are mostly observe during New Moon and Full Moon days in the temple. Therefore Buddhist can goes to the temple on the New Moon and Full Moon days to practice. By doing so we already observe Eight Precepts twice a month and when gets used to it we can also increase the number of days to practice. When practice The Eight Precepts it help to have a better understanding of the reality of life. The Eight Precepts : 6) Refrain from taking food after noon. 7) Refrain from sensual pleasures. 8) Refrain from luxurious seat or bed. Solution : 6) Refrain from taking food after noon : ( Cultivates Good Mental Mind For Practices ) This means that we can only take food between dawn and noon and cannot take any beyond that. This doesn't implies taking water after noon. This will help to have times on practice of Dhamma and meditation. When we are too full we will not be able to concentrate in meditation, so we must not eat too full even we only eat once a day. 7) Refrain from sensual pleasures : ( Cultivates Right Thoughts And Awareness ) This means do not enjoy music, sing songs, dancing during this practice to avoid unwholesome thoughts. This implies the use of perfumes, body poeder and cosmetics because we should be aware that beauty is impermanent. 8) Refrain from luxurious seat or bed : ( Cultivates A Happy Simple Way Of Life ) This means we should have a simple way of life and no luxurious. When practice we should not seat on soft chair, sleep on soft bed and things which give high comforts. |
