The initial idea… Those who have read the M4SV article will have probably guessed that I hadn’t decided which route to take with this project. I had come up with several diagrams; crudely mocked up in paint to try and get some idea of how the finished gun should look and perform.
I finally settled on a modified version of this design:
Parts used: Marui M4A1
Nikko Sterling 4*40 Scope
Marui Hi-mount
25 mm Square section mild steel
1mm (60thou) plasticard
1” silencing foam
Sling
Firstly, I cut down the front sight so that it no longer obscured the sight picture from the scope; this also gave the gun cleaner lines and reduced the weight of the front end.
Secondly, a new extended outer barrel with silencing foam was constructed from the mild steel and the plastic sheet. This was slid over the original and secured with a grub screw.
Thirdly, I attached the scope and mounts to the top rail on the M4 receiver.
Finally (when I order it) a complete FTK at 328 fps
