The Tokyo Marui MP5 series needs no introduction within the world of airsoft, the classic looks and good performance create one of the most widely used airsoft guns on the market. The MP5SD6 is very similar to the MP5A5 (see review), the only difference is that the SD is fitted with an intergrated supressor. Aesthetics: As with the A5 Marui have done a stunning job with this gun, the fininshing on the ABS could easily be mistaken for metal. The foregrip is rubber coated, and weld marks on the reciever are faithfully reproduced. As with all of the MP5 series from Marui the SD features the navy style trigger group (Safe, semi, and full) with bullet pictograms to illustrate the selector position. The gun is light... nothing more can be said about this! As with all of the MP5 series the SD lacks the heft of other Marui AEG's. On the other hand though it does feel verry solidly built. My SD is a couple of years old now and shows no signs of any loose parts or wobble. While were on the subject it is worthy to note that the SD6 is creek free! Performance This is where the SD6 shines, as with the MP5A5 the SD has a relativly short barrel, thus the friction on the bb is reduced, this makes for a very good range. Out of all of the AEG's the Ministry of Attack have had the A5 and SD6 have had the longest range. Anyhow the EG700 motor cranks out a fair rate of fire (aproximatly 700-800 rounds per minite) which can be improved by the use of a 9.6v battery (which incidentally will fit into the foregrip without modification). The silencer The question everybody asks is "does the silencer work?" The answer is both yes and no.... The volume of the sound is hardly changed by the silencer, but the pitch of the note is audibly changed. This means that it sounds like you are firing the gun from a different distance. Unfortunatly this doesn't help a great deal in skirmishing, but it does look kool! Upgradeability: I have a TN 6.04mm barrel in mine along with an M100 spring, this pushes the muzzle velocity up to around 320fps which makes a great deal of difference during the game as you can never have enough range :) As I am sure you will all know the MP5 series is possibly the gun with the most number of accesories available. Here is just a short list of what you could put on your SD6: Scope Flashlight Laser RIS Pistol grip Extended outer barrel Mag clamp Drum Mags (single and double) etc..... And Finally..... The MP5SD6 is a great all round gun, I personally would recomend it to both beginner and experienced airsofter alike. |
