Every winter people go out in great numbers to participate in the Winter Carnival medallion hunt.  We are trying to make treasure hunting a little more comfortable.  While you are free to go outside in whatever weather is out there, this one can be done entirely from the ease of your desk chair.

Of course, there are some drawbacks.  We have no corporate sponsor for our hunt and thus no prize money.  [We are willing to name the winner on these pages as a testimony to his/her astuteness and allow him/her to send the URL to whomever he/she pleases for whatever bragging consideration that might be.]  And unlike the DPP we are a somewhat less flexible on things like deadlines.

Here basically are the rules:

1.  There really are not any rules.

2.  CCC will post a picture taken within the past 12 months from a public place in Saint Paul and will give a clue to help the searcher along.

3.  Tell us at
cccacophony@prodigy.net what the picture is of and where it would be.  Decisions of the judge is final.

4.  If no right answer is received we will [when we get around to it, which we hope will be more or less weekly] a] give a new clue or b] show a bigger piece of the picture or c] both.

4.  Depending on how this goes, we may do another.
OUR NEW ALL-SEASON STAY INDOORS IF YOU WISH TREASURE HUNT

Don Halverson sent in the first winning answer Friday April 16.

The photo was of a piece of the natioinal monument to those who died in the Civilian Conservation Corps.  It sits in Phalen Park just northwest of the Lakeside Activity Center.  The person who guessed Central Park in Roseville was clearly wrong.
This is the Capitol City Cacophony;  all sites are in Saint Paul. [We don't even know that park very well and have no idea what was even being suggested.

We suspect that many people in Saint Paul are aware that this national memorial is in our city.  And I even have to admit that I had never thought of the CCC as having dead.  CSP

Only one clue was needed for this hunt.  It explanation is below

Clue #1.  Some nouns are proper; others not.  Some messages get special attention and are capitalized.  Some initials are the same.  Is this a confusing way to start this game?

All of the words on the monument are written in capital letters.  The first words of "Civilian Conservation Corps" was generally capitalized in public writings and it was often referred to by its initials.  "CCC" are also the initials of Capitol City Cacophony.

We just had our first winner!  More about him and our first hunt below.  In the meantime we need to start our second hunt.

At right is our second picture posted on Saturday April 17.

Clue #1:  People going up need support to get there;
it does not hurt to have support when going down, either.

Clue #2:  Justice demands an equitable perspective.

Clue #3  Look for a park with a sheep in it

Clue #4.  It is in the Tenth Ward.  This may help those of you who remember where Saint Paul's wards are.  If you don't, ask a cab driver.where the "North Long Hill" is.  If you are a cab driver who knows his/her wards, you have just recerived two clues.
