Memorial Service for Jupicia |
Deceased 12th of Sojourn, year 267 Memorial Service 17th of Serenus, year 268 |
At Midnight tonight, the passing away service for Jupicia, the elven priestess of Bast in the narthex of Her Temple Narthex of the Temple of Bast, Goddess of Lust, Vice, and Greed Imoshen Tulkhan the Myrmidon Jaheria T'En the Lord of Legerdemain Delik the Esteemed Priest Sephrido Tsul the Forger of Fascinations Bael Lerralith the Solemn Limner Kez Kincaid the warrior Dian Lucius the conquering Hero Thalia the Eclogue Nightingale Maelgrim Kraeghan the Holy Vicar Talithia Ismenia Vikaria Leshrak Belair says, "If you would all write on a piece of parchment a memory, something you treasure or anything at all about whom we dedicate this ceremony, that would be great. We will be using them later once Bael and I have spoken." Belair scribes Her accepting my proposal. Sephrido scribes I didn't know Jupicia really well until the last few years of her life. I have always admired her though, she has been such a strong and powerful figure, so comanding and committed to Bast. I remember when we first really met...she was telling me off for playing cards with a Paragon...she was so angry...but right to do so. Since then I got to know her more and more and admired her deeply. In the last few years in her illness and otherwise, I felt myself quite close to her. I used to visit the temple...to grin at her, because she told me it cheered her greatly. I never told her, but it cheered me as well... seeing her so strong...even though so weakened by disease. Bael scribes My fondest memory of Jupicia... When she was there for me despite my beliefs and helped me when I was at my weakest and most vulnerable. I'm just glad I could return the favor. I will always miss you and remember you in everything I do. Thank you for trusting me. 2 scribes The most fondest memory I have is the one where Jupicia was really sick, I would sit by her for hours, giving her comfort. It was perhaps during this time that I really bonded with Jupicia. 3 scribes Every moment that I've spent with Jupicia is a treasured moment. From the first time I met her, til the last moments I've spent with her, I will always treasure those moments. It's something that no one can ever take away from me. I wanted to do so much more with her but... it's too late. Barandis scribes I recall fondly the very first time that I met Jupicia. It was at Evana's house, shortly after I had joined Clan Yishvina and before Jupicia had. We were there with some others...Evana, Falcore, Triaina...and the three of them left us alone while they went on some unnamed quest. We had several hours there to get to know each other. We clicked quite well immediately, and by the time the others had returned, we were talking as though we had known each other for years rather than hours. We took our leave then and simply spent the day in each others' presence. We had a little playful beting on each other in the Glorydome, and then we decided to escape to Thrace and do some hunting of jungle creatures. It never happened, though. We went for coffee in the J4 and had no desire to leave. The time finally came, though, when it was time to go...and the desire that we had for each other was palpable by this time. Time went on, and we very nearly got married. There are many memories of those times, but all of them hearken back to that very first, meeting accidentally in Evana's home. 4 scribes Jupicia, you never gave up on me, no matter what. You stood by me, even though I am sure I tested your patience to no end. You always gave good advice when I needed it, even though I didn't listen sometimes, I thank you for that advice. You were a great friend when I needed one, always willing to listen. I am grateful just for knowing you. Thank you for everything, shall miss you greatly. 5 scribes I didn't know Jupicia as well as some, but one thing in particular sticks in my memory - a few weeks before she died, I shared a boat from Thrace with her. Even though her body had been ravaged by the disease, she still bore herself regally, and had a pleasant word for me. Her strength of will made me realize that true power does not come from physical capability, but from within. She inspired me to always seek that same strength within myself. Belair whispers and talks in hushed tones, allowing quiet to settle over the narthex. "Perhaps we can begin with the ritualistic part of the service first." Belair walks over to the center of the narthex, standing wrapped in his cape within the circular symbol of Bast etched into the floor. "I am going to ask everyone to place their piece of parchment inside the symbol of Bast." "Once that is done, I will burn them, and perhaps we will find some semblence at closure." Belair stares at his parchment a moment before letting it drop at his feet inside the circular symbol Kez folds his parchment carefully and places it in the circle Barandis reads his parchment once more and, satisfied, rolls it tightly and drops it onto the symbol. Jaheria drops piece of parchment. Dian places the parchment inside the symbol. Sephrido folds her parchment the drops it into the circle Imoshen nods satisfied Imoshen drops piece of parchment. Bael drops piece of parchment. Delik drops piece of parchment. "Death is one of those things. You can spend months on end planning for an event that will be forgotten in hours, yet you'll never find yourself prepared for the moment that ends your mortal existence completely." Belair's fingers trace fire in the air with slow, dramatic circles, gathering brighter and brighter flame in his hands before it's blasted at the pile of parchments, becoming a powerful, consuming bonfire Calling upon elemental forces and the power of Bast, Belair brings a huge bonfire into existence! "May she rest in peace. May we find closure." Belair lifts his face and meets the gathering's gaze, his gothic-painted face an ominous sight, thick with black makeup. "For those who don't know me, my name is Belair Savage. I want to say a few words in memory of my fiance." Belair pauses, struck still in the center of attention for a long, uncomfortable silence. "... my fiance, lived a remarkable life, one that greatly inspired countless people, myself included. Her outgoing spirit, her charming captivations, and her happy demeanor made her a wonderful person to know and treasure. She would always have time for people wanting to learn about her goddess, and her patience as a cleric was limitless." "She was able to respect and take an interest in every person she met. Everyone I would introduce her to, either already knew her, or quickly came to respect and admire her for who she was. Even her religious enemies would know of her, and what she represented." "We all have our own ways of serving the deity we are devoted to; she was no different, and certainly no less. She was more diligent than any could give her credit for: more times than I can remember would she graciously sacrifice her times of pleasure to assist others." Some of Belair's makeup starts to leak and run down his face. "Believe me, I know it true." ''She was the most passionate person I have ever known, and also the most beautiful. Even in her state of sickness and woe, her lure was powerful, and almost constantly was she tended to and cared for; her company was divine even when she was bed-ridden and coughing up blood Belair's makeup continues to run, wetly smearing his cheeks and chin. "Her strength of character shone in everything she did, and she was a true warrior of Bast in body, mind and soul. A true warrior of Bast: to the end." "I will miss her in so many ways. My jovial competitor, my equal, my confidant and my sister priestess. I will miss her infectious laugh, her jealous glare, her glorious body, her forever changing eyes." Belair's face becomes more and more dark as the makeup is carried down by his tears "My wife-to-be. My Jupicia." |
Belair smears his black-runny face with a hand. "If Bael is ready, he has some words to share." Belair leaves the center of the narthex and sits quietly on a bed. Bael steps forward, taking a deep breath. Bael clears his throat and speaks clearly, looking around the Narthex "Thank you all for being here, I'd like to think it would mean a lot to Jupicia, and well, I know it means a lot to those of us gathered here. I was originally asked to speak here by Belair, and to be honest, I had no idea what to stand up here and say. And I'm still not sure what I should say, so please bare with me." Bael fidgets a little bit, glancing around briefly "Jupicia meant a lot to many of us, really more than were able to gather here for this. Probably even some people you'd be surprised about. She was an influence on many of our lives, and was there for a lot of us when we needed it. Which is why so many people tried so hard to help cure her when she started getting ill." Bael looks over at Belair as he continues "Somehow I ended up in a position where Jupicia told me things while she was sick that she apparently didn't tell anyone else. I can't tell you why, I don't know. And please don't misunderstand me, I'm not bragging by any means, I'm not proud of it. I can't tell you why it happened, but I can tell you some of what she said to me. And hope it brings some comfort to you in some capacity." Bael takes a deep breath before continuing "I think the first and probably most important thing to know and understand is that Jupicia knew a lot more about just how sick she was than she let on. And I know she was holding back when she told me things as well. And she most definately knew when the illness reached a point where it could not be cured." Bael looks around pausing for a moment as he looks at each one of you "That's the most important thing she told me, and it's especially important to understand why she didn't just come out and announce this to everyone. To her, it was very important that her friends and more especially her Churchmates maintain hope and faith that they could cure her and defeat the demons. Which is why she let anyone with a good idea and the motivation to see it through and make any attempt to cure her that they were able." Bael looks down at the floor, fidgetting some more "So this is what I'm here to say, I guess. That despite everything, Jupicia should be a motivation to us all. We should all hold her memory dear to us, and we should remember that even in the worst of times, she always tried to bring the best out of all of us. And let's not let her death be in vain, we can defeat the demons, they have nothing on us. We need to remember all of those who have been lost aremember all of those who have been lost and use it to motivate us toward the banishment of the horde." Bael takes another deep breath, looking up to meet people's eyes "So keep her in your hearts and in your minds, and try to follow your own paths. Try to make her proud, and be comfortably that we will all see her in a matter of time, and know that she's in a much safer place then we are right now. And most importantly, that think she'd want us to go on and live out lives to their fullest, because that's how we can help her to empower Bast. That's how we can best serve her memory... " Bael says, "I'm sorry... I have no idea what else to say... thank you all for listening..." Bael steps back towards the edge of the narthex Belair rises to speak again. "It's not easy to organise the passing service of someone close to you. I thank you all for coming: your presence means a lot, and it is appreciated." Once again, Belair summons a bonfire in the center of the narthex. Belair stares at the bonfire, his black-splotched face and wide eyes making him look ... truly savage. Imoshen says to Belair, "I would like to thank you for holding this, even though I know it must be hard for you." Imoshen walks up to Belair and hugs him Belair leans into Imoshen, keeping his eyes on the flame Barandis says to Belair, "I know your pain and share it with you. Some of my fondest moments came because of Jupicia. She will be missed for the rest of our lives." Belair says, "I wish I had held this closer to when I took her life." Kez says, "My sympathies to you, Belair, and to all Bastites on your loss." Barandis says to Belair, "Should you need anything, Belair, I am only a couple of houses down the road." Maelgrim says to Belair, "My condolences, Guildmate. Jupicia will be dearly missed." Barandis bows and silently departs Bael says, "Hey folks, Thalia would like to say something" Thalia says, "I'm sure a few of you wonder why I came. Years ago, Jupicia came to me during a time of trouble. She offered me words of comfort and she gave me a gift to try and cheer me. I never forgot that." Thalia says, "I came when she was ill and tried to do the same for her. The Jupicia I remember is the vibrant, funny woman who could draw the attention of all just by entering the room." Thalia says, "Over the years we had a mutual respect for each other and I felt I should honor her by attending" Thalia says, "She will be missed by many, myself included" Thalia says, "I just wanted to pay my respects to someone who in many ways I admire." Belair says, "If anyone would like to speak, by all means..." Talithia says, "I will." Talithia says, "I remember the day I met Jupicia for the first time. We were both wandering the tombstones in the cemetery." Talithia says, "I'm fairly certain she took one look at me and promptly healed me. But, what I remember most is, after the first exchange of introductory pleasantries... she turned me over her knee and spanked me." Talithia says, "I was shocked, and, amazed by the pluck this girl had. And I've adored her ever since." Talithia says, "We'll all miss her." Belair wrings his hands and takes a slow breath, "Once again, I thank you for coming. I know she would be missing all of you just the same." "I'm going to have a lie down." Belair pauses a moment, before quietly walking inside the Temple [Belair says, "Is it time to sleep?" ] [Belair says, "Yes. It is..." ] Meanwhile… Ismenia says, "The service is over then?" Bael says, "I think so, but if people have stuff they want to say, I'm sure people are willing to listen" Ismenia says, "too bad we don't have ale to do a toast to her." Talithia agrees wholeheartedly with Ismenia Ismenia says, "She would probably want us partying and having fun" Bael says, "She'd definately want us enjoying our lives. In fact, she said that several times while she was sick" Talithia says, "Herre we arre in thhe themple of Bassth bu-being deprressssing, of all thhingss! Jupess would bu-be horrrrified if sshe ssaw ith." Ismenia agrees wholeheartedly. Ismenia says, "To Jupicia!!" Imoshen raises her drink in a toast to all! Talithia says, "To Jupicia!" Ismenia raises her drink in a toast to all! Bael says, "I know she tried talking me out of spending time with her several times while she was sick by telling me I should enjoy my life and have some fun" Ismenia says, "We should have gotten Belair drunk" Minraed regretfully was unable to attend this ceremony. For her words look here. |
