Clark and Lana's History Together
2000s Smallville (Tv Series) Before the days he became a Metropolis reporter who doubled as the man in tights, there was always a Lana Lang, Clark's childhood sweetheart. In the WB series SMALLVILLE, Lana is orphaned by the events that bring Clark to Smallville. Her parents are killed in the meteor shower, leaving her in the custody of Nell Potter, her aunt. Clark's friends once teased him about the weak in the knees reaction he seemed to have to Lana Lang, little did they know it was caused by the kryptonite necklace her Aunt Nell gave her on the day of her adoption. Some would say Lana began her High School career at the top. She was a cheerleader dating a big man on Campus, (senior?) Whitney Fordman -- Football Star. Despite her high school status, Lana seemed to be incomplete and a bit of a loner. Though Whitney was high school heart throb material, there seemed to be a distance between them and the changes in their life didn't do much to strengthen there relationship. Things took a drastic change in direction when she abandoned the popular girl world of cheerleading for the work force. With the help of Lex Luthor, she's taken on the job of getting "The Talon" (a movie theater where her parents met) back on it's feet. She also began to seek friendships, growing closer to Clark and Chloe, but away from Whitney.
The illness in Whitney's family (his father who eventually died) had there relationship on a rollercoaster ride. After his father died, Whitney decided to follow in his father's footsteps and joined the Marines. Before he left to be a Marine, he asked Lana if she would wait for him. She couldn't answer him, but at his departure she gave him the Kryptonite necklace. It seemed, at first, obligation would keep Lana tied to Whitney. But her life went on without him and as the new school year came in she was becoming a more solid part of a circle of friends (Clark, Chloe, and Pete). She realized it was time to let him go and broke the relationship off. While things seem to be going well (mostly) with Chloe and she has a casual friendship with Pete, issues of trust have come between herself and Clark. The simple absence of Whitney hasn't sent them running into each other's arms. Though they had one failed date while Clark was under the influence of Red krptonite (which leaves Clark unable to explain his actions), it will proably be a long rode to repairing there friendship before those hoping for a Clark/Lana relationship can expect anything more.
