CHAO FAQ
Q. What is a FAQ?
A. Frequently Asked Questions. -_-
Q. What is a Chao?
A. Chao are cute little virtual pet-like creatures found in SA2B, SADX
Sonic Advance and Sonic Advance 2. It is your job to take care of them,
feed them, train them (raising their stats) and race them ^_^ They come
in all sorts of pretty colours and hatch from eggs. They can evolve
into cute little angels or devious little devils and even stay
completely neutral towards life. They can learn and make friends and they love to eat!
Q. How is "Chao" pronounced?
A. It is pronounced "Chow" and the plural (meaning there is more than one) for Chao is Chao.
Q. Which Game is this info for?
A. Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.
Q. What's that floaty thing above my Chao?
A. That's the Chao's Emote Ball. It will change depending on how it
feels/what it's doing. If your Chao is Happy or ready to mate, its
Emote Ball will become a heart, if your Chao is hurt or tired its Emote
Ball will become a swirly tornado thing, if your Chao is thinking its
Emote Ball will become a ? and if your Chao has an idea its Emote Ball
will become a !
Q. How do I unlock the Hero or Dark Garden?
A. To get the Hero Garden make a chao evolve into a Hero type. To get
the Dark Garden make a chao evolve into a Dark type. This can easily be
done by raising the baby Chao with Hero or Dark characters only.
Q. How do I plant seeds?
A. First you must win the Watering Can and the Shovel from the chao
races. To get those, complete level 3 in the Stump Valley and Crab Pool
races. It may take a while but that chao will now be able to plant
seeds.
Q. UGH! my chao planted a tree in a place I don't want it!
A. Don't worry, all trees bought from the Black Market and planted by
chao will die eventually, just wait for the tree to die. There are
certain spots where a tree can be planted, so you don't have to worry
about a Chao planting it in the water or on a mountain ledge or
something like that.
Q. Is there any way to make my tree live longer?
A. I don't think so. The type of tree that lives the longest is the
Strong Seed, so I suggest planting one of those.
Q. The fruit on the tree isn't growing fast enough! How can I make it
grow faster?
A. Quite impatient, are we? Yes, just get the Chao to water the tree,
that will make the fruit grow faster. To get a Chao to water a tree, it
must have the watering can. Repeatedly place the Chao in front of the
tree until it waters the tree.
Q. How do I play with a toy my chao won in the races?
A. You can't. Some toys can only be used by chao, other's are for the
garden (the balls, the jack-in-the-box, the rocking horse, the radio,
and the television) and others go to the chao that won them in a race,
and will only take that toy out when it wants to (all except for the
shovel, the chao will take that out when you give it a seed to plant)
Q. How do I know if my Chao is in its 2nd evolution?
A. Umm...you just have to know. If he's 3 4 or 5 years old, and you've
been gving him a lot of animals and drives, and he looks a little
different from his 1st evolution...then he's probably in his 2nd
evolution...
Q. How many Chao can I have in one Garden?
A. 8
Q. What stat levels do you suggest for races?
A. Beginner - Level 15+
Jewel - Level 30+
Challenge - Level 37+
Hero/Dark - Level 50+
Q. How do I smake sure my Chao won't die?
A. Don't treat it bad! It is very hard (in my experience) to kill Chao.
So don't worry about it.
Q. My Chao turned into an egg!! What happened?
A. It regenerated. If your Chao is at the end of its lifespan and
you've treated it well, it will reincarnate by surrounding itself in a
pink cacoon and reverting to an egg.
Q. When will my Chao wake up?
A. Chao don't sleep for very long, just let it sleep in peace or it wll
get very annoyed.
Q. If I break a Chao egg, will the Chao inside hate me?
A. Nope. The Chao won't hold a grudge.
----------------------------------
CHAO EGGS, BREEDING, DEATH AND REBIRTH:
Every Garden comes with an egg. The Chao Garden comes with 2 eggs and
the Hero and Dark gardens come with 1 egg each. You can also buy chao
eggs from the Black Market, or get chao to breed to get more chao eggs.
There are three ways to hatch an egg:
-Pick it up and cuddle it (hold down the B button when you pick up
the egg, then push the control stick; or, hold Y while holding the egg,
and push the control stick), then set it down
-Pick it up and throw it against a wall
-Leave it alone, it will hatch on its own
There IS a way to make sure an egg doesn't hatch, and that is to leave
it floating in the water, of course this will only work if you stay in
the garden, as soon as you leave and re-enter the garden the egg will
appear in a different (and random) location.
The methods you choose to hatch a chao egg will affect a chao's
personality but contrary to popular belief it will NOT affect the
appearence of the chao (its face) A chao's face is pre-determined
before you even hatch the egg. In the Sonic Advance game, you can see a
chao's face before you get it, allowing you to change it if you wish by
cancelling the selection (that only works if the Chao has never been in
SA2B before). The Chao's face is determined as soon as the egg is
created.
Chao breeding is quite easy, all you need are two chao who are both in
their second evolution or higher and one must be willing to mate. To
get your chao fertile enough to mate you can let it happen naturally or
you may buy a "Heart Fruit" from the Black Market and feed it to your
chao. When your chao is ready to mate (it will sit down on the ground
with a heart over it's head and flowers will bloom around it) just
place another chao beside it and poof! instant chao egg!
Q. My Chao wont mate, is my game broken?
A. Um...no. They probably just don't like eachother, try again with two
different chao and make sure they're BOTH in their second evolution or
higher and at least one is ready to mate.
Q. Both Chao are in their second evolution and both had eaten a Heart
Fruit, they still won't mate! WHY?
A. Make sure you have at max 7 Chao in that Garden or else they will
not be able to mate. The maximum number of Chao you can have in one
garden is 8, so if you have 8 Chao and two mate to create a new Chao,
this cannot happen because it would exceed the maximum ammount of Chao
by 1. So instead, they just cannot mate.
Q. How do I know what gender my Chao is?
A. Chao do not have genders.
Q. How long do chao live?
A. The average Chao lifespan is 4 to 5 years old. (about 3 hours in real-time)
Using common sense, a Chao will live longer if you treat it better. At
the end of a chao's lifespan it will cacoon and die or cacoon and be
reborn. You can tell if it will die if the cacoon is gray, if the
cacoon is pink that means it will be reborn and you will be left with
its egg to hatch. Don't worry about killing your chao though, it is
very difficult to make a chao die. You would have to treat it very
badly throughout its entire life (aww, why would you want to do that?)
there is no need for that however, you can just grab any chao you don't
want and step on the big red button on the platform of the GBA stand in
the Gardens, and select "Good-Bye" your chao will go off to a magical
forest and live there happily forever (in other words, it will be
deleted from your memory card) The only chao which cannot die are The
Chaos Light Chao, the Chaos Angel Chao, and the Chaos Devil Chao.

Tiny Animal FAQ
Q. Where do I get the (insert animal here) tiny animal?
A. You might want to check out a Walkthrough at Http://www.gamefaqs.com
they have some really great walkthroughs! and you'll be able to find a
list with the locations of animals there too.
Q. Which Tiny Animals do you recommend?
A. Running - Rabbit
Flying - Condor (purple bird)
Swimming - Otter
Power - Bear
Ledgendary - Phoenix
Black - Skeleton Dog or Half Fish (aka Kappa)
Blue - Raccoon or Ram
Q. Does only the Skeleton Dog remove animal parts?
All Black animals (Bat, Skeleton Dog, Haf-Fish) will take animal parts
away.
Q. Does the Half-Fish give Chao their feet back?
A.The Half-Fish will give Chao their legs back. I know they do because
I use Half-Fishes a lot, and it has given my Chao their legs back. The
Black animals all remove animal parts, and the Skeleton Dog is the only
animal that doesn't give animal parts to a Chao. The Bat's leg-removing
and the Half-Fish's Flame/Whisp Ball do count as animal parts. That
means that the Half-Fish andthe Skeleton Dog will both remove the Bat's
no-leg effect, and the Skeleton Dog and the Bat will
remove the Half-Fish's Flame/Whisp Ball effect. I hope that made
sense...I've also learned that you can get rid of the Half-Fish's
Flame/Whisp Chao Ball effect by giving a Chao a Chaos Drive aswell.

CHAO LABORATORY:
---Breeding cool coloured Chao---
There are many interesting types of Chao you can get when you breed
Chao. Each time you ate Chao, the baby gets a little of the parents
genes which are passed on from generation to generation. Most strange
coloured Chao are easy to get and some are difficult to get...here's a
list of cool coloured Chao you can get. but first a little info on the
types of Cho there are out there.
Half-Normal(aka Two-Toned): A Chao that has unusual colours like maybe
red with blue highlights. They are unusual and can only be found by
breeding.
Shiny: Shiny pink/sky blue/purple etc. Chao you can buy at the Black
Market
Monotone: single coloured Chao like the pink/blue/red etc Chao you can
buy at the Black Market
Shiny Half-Normal: Half-Normal but also Shiny. There are also
Shiny-Normal Chao who have normal colours but are shiny.
Transparent: Ghostly looking Chao that you can see through. They have
faint colours and can barely be seen.
Invisible: Completely invisible besides for the eyes, mouth,
ball/spike/halo, wings, and animal parts.
Monotone Normal Chao: A strange Chao recently discovered, I luckily
stumbled upon the correct methods of obtaining one. It appears Monotone
white when hatched, but you can quickly tell it is not a normal
Monotone Chao by simply petting it with a Dark character. (more on this
later)
1. Half-Normal (aka Two-Toned) and Shiny Half-Normal
To get a Half-Normal Chao is quite easy. All you must do is mate any
Shiny Chao or any Monotone Chao to a Normal Chao. The result will
either be a Half-Normal, Shiny Half-Normal, Shiny-Normal, Shiny(colour
of Shiny parent), Montone(colour of Shiny parent), or Normal. Depending
on what Chao you mated.
Here's a list of the Half-Normal Chao I've gotten:
Shiny Pink/Normal- Main colour is purple with pink highlights. Very
nice when Dark aligned. Shiny version is even prettier
Shiny Sky Blue/Normal- Looks like a lighter blue version of the normal
Chao but has very light blue markings. Looks nice when evolved into a
Neutral Running Chao. Looks quite nice when Shiny. When hatched, it is
darker than normal.
Shiny/Normal- Looks like a regular Normal Chao, only shiny.
Yellow/Normal- Main colour is green with yellow highlights.
White/Normal- Looks very similar to a Normal Chao when born, only more
faded looking. When Dark, its body is black and its tips are blue. Very
nice.
Brown/Normal- Main colour is dark green with brown highlights.
Blue/Normal- Main colour is light blue with dark blue highlights.
Grey/Normal- Main colour is teal with grey highlights.
Green/Normal- Main colour is green with green highlights.
Red/Normal- Main colour is dark red with light red highlights.
Lime Green/Normal- Main colour is lime green with lime green
highlights.
Purple/Normal- Main colour is blue with purple highlights.
Orange/Normal- Main colour is brown with orange highlights.
Black/Normal- Main colour is black with lighter black highlights.
2. Transparent/Invisible Chao
How to make transparent chao:
Simply mate a Jewel Chao to any Shiny Chao. The result with either be a
Transparent or Translucent Chao. The type of Jewel Chao you use doesn't
matter, however the type of Shiny Chao does count.
(Note: Jewel chao can only be obtained through Sonic Advance 1/2. The
gold and silver chao from Sonic Adventure DX do not count as jewel
chao, you may use ANY Jewel Chao, but the Shiny colours are specific)
Shiny Red/jewel- Transparent Shiny light Green with yellow highlights.
Shiny Pink/jewel- Looks Half-Normal when hatched, but when evolved,
doesn't have the correct colors. It's Shiny Milk Blue-Green. More opaque than
clear. Quite beautiful. Neutral/Fly is Light Blue with dark blue rings
around it's head.
Shiny Orange/jewel- Transparent Shiny Lime Green, yellow highlights
Shiny Yellow/jewel- Completely invisible except for the eyes, mouth,
ball/spike/halo, wings, and animal parts.
Shiny LimeGreen/jewel- Completely invisible except for the eyes, mouth,
ball/spike/halo, wings, and animal parts.
Shiny Green/jewel- Transparent shiny green, really clear.
Shiny Sky Blue/jewel- Produced clear, really, really, light blue-green
tint with yellow highlights.
Shiny Blue/jewel- Transparent Shiny Blue.
Shiny Purple/jewel- Produced Clear Shiny Sky blue with green
highlights.
Shiny Brown/jewel- Interesting. A mixture of Shiny light blue & Shiny
white. A shiny white with a light blue shiny wrap!
Shiny Black/jewel- Transparent Light Milky Blue-green. Looks like
fog/smoke.
Shiny Grey/jewel- Completely invisible except for the eyes, mouth,
ball/spike/halo, wings, and animal parts.
Shiny White/jewel- Transparent Shiny light blue-green with yellow
highlights.
3. Monotone Normal Chao
These Chao were a myth until now. Recent discoveries have proven them
to be correct. I have one of these Chao an I luckily stumbled upon the
recipe for it. It appears Monotone white when hatched but you can
easily reveal it to be a MTN when you pet it with Dark characters. If
it is in fact this rare Chao, it will turn red. If not, it will remain
white like a normal Monotone Chao. When it evolves it will change
colours. It will however, stay white for every Hero alignment (don't
ask why, I don't know)
The name means...
Monotone = One solid colour
Normal = Changes colours like a Normal Chao
Chao = It's a Chao
The recipe is this:
Shiny Pink* + Normal= Half-Normal
Half-Normal + Normal= Monotone Normal Chao
There you have it! Good luck trying to get you very own rare Monotone
Colourchange Chao!
*It is not known if Shiny Pink is needed, but I suggest it because this
is how I discovered my own MTN Chao ^_^

for, or use to your advantage...the system goes like this:
RISK Factor = risk of ruining your game 0 - 10 (10 being the worst 0
being no risk at all)
Difficulty = How difficult pulling off this trick is 1/5 (1 being easy
peasy and 5 being very hard)
Infinite Animal Cheat:
This Cheat can save you a lot of time! Get your Chao's stats to Level 99
in NO time! All you have to do
is grab a tiny animal or a chaos drive, step into a Garden and find a
Chao. Pet the Chao or give it a fruit, something
to make it stay still. You can also get it stuck in the pillar in the
Hero Garden so it can't move at all (the one right
near the door) GRab the animal or drive and stand in front of the Chao.
Leave enough space so that you won't
hand the animal/drive to the Chao. Drop the animal/drive right in front
of the Chao and it wil use the animal/drive but
it will drop it again and it will be usable again! You can do this as
many times as needed!
RISK Factor: 0
Difficulty: 3/5
Camera Trick:
You can hit stuff with your camera. Postition yourself so that your
character is standing in front of the
Ball in the Garden, make sure the ball is right in front of your
camera. Walk forward and the camera will
hit the ball and send to rolling! It's amusing.
RISK Factor: 0
Difficulty: 1/5
Ring Trick:
This can be a lifesaver, or a game crasher. All you need to do is go
into the Black Market and buy something very expensive.
Then go out, place the item in a Garden and save. Go back into the
Garden, retrive the item and go back to
the Black Market. sell the item and when you hear the "ka-ching" hit
reset on the GCN. When you enter the Garden again, you should have
all of the rings yo spent on the item...AND the item.
RISK Factor: 9 (I did this trick involuntarily, when I tried to sell an
item I accidently bought and a power surge reset my GCN. Nothing would
save. Be warned)
Difficulty: 1/5
The OTHER Ring Trick:
Go into City Escape Mission 3 (Find The Lost Chao) and collect rings,
but do not get the Chao, instead go throught the level as many times
as it takes to get 999 rings (maximum) If you're really good, like me
(^_^) you can get 999 rings in 3 tries (hit the Go Back ring twice) As
soon as you have the desired ammount of rings, simply "find" the Chao.
RISK Factor: 0
Difficulty: 2/5
Chao Hat Glitch:
I am not sure how this glitch is activated. For me it was the freak
power surge accident that reset my GCN and caused me to do the "Ring
Trick" after that I couln't save ANYTHING. I ended up having to sell
the item I had bought again and buy another item of the same price. But
the Hat Problem still remained. No matter how many times I smacked my
Chao around, the eggshell would not come off. I ened up "Saying
Good-Bye" to poor Lucky but as soon as I got rid of the corrupted Chao,
the hat problem was gone. A few other people are having this problem,
so if you have a Chao with a hat that will not come off, I suggest
saying "Good-Bye" to it.
(NOTE: Sometimes if your Chao's hat will not come off, it just means
you have too many items in your Garden. Remove an item (fruit) and you
should be able to get the hat off)
RISK Factor: 10 (your Chao will be stuck with a hat on forever!)
Difficulty: ??? It is unknown what caused this glitch.
The Dark Garden Fence Glitch:
You know that fence right by the tree in the Dark Garden? Did you know
you can drop a Chao into the ground? It will be inside the ground and
all oyu can see is its head. This isn't what's bad about this glitch.
If you drop the Dark Garden Ball into that area, it will be lost
forever! Be very careful! This glitch does not need to be activated, it exists as soon as you get the Dark Garden.
RISK Factor: 10 (you WILL lose your ball)
Dificulty: 1/5
The Underground Glitch:
This is a funny glitch. Sometimes if you throw the tiny animals they
will go right through the ground! you can only see a moving shadow. The
animals are actually swimming under the ground....they will eventually
come out of the ground by swimming into the pool. You can also push a
Chao into the ground when its sleeping. Just push a Chao over to the
edge of a pool and nudge it slowly over the edge, it will get stuck
inside the edge of the pool and sometimes go under the ground! The Chao
can get out by itself though.
RISK Factor: 0 (harmless, but amusing)
Difficulty: 0-3/5 (0 for the animal throwing and 3 for the Chao
underground)

CHAO GAMES:
Fun games to play when you're bored and have nothing better do do.
CHAO BOWLING
Bored? having a party? Just need to take out some anger on something?
well, whatever to occasion, Chao Bowling is alway the game to play! All
you need is a Garden and an un-hatched Chao egg. Pick it up and throw
it! here's how scoring goes:
-your score stays the same if you miss/hit nothing
-award yourself 10 points if you hit a Garden item (t.v, rocking horse,
boom box)
-award yourself 20 points if it lands right on top of a Chao's artwork
(the pictures Chao draw on the ground)
-award yourself 30 points if you can get it to land on the bridge thing
in the Hero Garden
-award yourself 40 points if you can get it to land the water (Chao Garden only)
-award yourself 50 points if you hit a Chao
-award yourself 100 points if you can get it to land inside the cage in
the Dark Garden (I did it once)
game ends when the egg breaks
my current high score is: 190
Chao bowling will not hurt any of the other Chao in the garden.
