| So what is Miranda's Kennelz all about? Well, originally Miranda's Kennelz was never intended to be a website, but in the petz community nowadays it is almost impossible NOT to have one. So, at first I made a yahoo group for MK. It was okay, but it wasn't great. So, Miranda's Kennelz was brought to geocities. True, it might not be the BEST host server, but it's cheap and it works! It has always been my dream to be a professional dog breeder when I get older. I guess I can't wait and am obsessed with the thought of doing that with my life, so I created Miranda's Kennelz for the petz community. Sure, dog breeding seems simple enough. After all, there are only so many ways Slot A can fit into Slot B, if you know what I'm saying. ;) But if you're a professional dog breeder, your goal is NOT to populate the world with MORE dogs - it is to improve or maintain a breed. Dog breeding is an art and should be taken seriously. You are responsible for EVERY SINGLE LIFE YOU BRING INTO THIS WORLD, so if you mess up you will be haunted for the rest of your life! But lets not get carried away here. After all this is only a computer game and it is for fun! Bottom line is, our mission and main purpose at MK is to breed dogz for showing and working purposes in the Petz Kennel Club, Dogz Kennel Club, Kennel Club Association, and Champions Kennel Club. Inbreeding can be a great method in dog breeding. If you have two closely related dogz that both have lots of good traits, then the puppies will probably be that way too. However, I am NOT saying it is a good idea to inbreed OFTEN. Inevitably, if you do, you are bound to have some genetic problems. Unfortunately, all breeds are inbred and eventually more and more genetic problems will surface in all breeds with a closed stud book in a kennel club. (But again, getting carried away, you won't have these problems in a computer game.) I am just saying that inbreeding is misunderstood; it only becomes a problem when people do it over and over again, such as is the eventual case with "pure-bred" dogs. If you have a dog that you KNOW you aren't going to breed, then spay or neuter it!!!! There are enough dogz in the world without you adding more, just so that they can end up in an adoption center somewhere. So please don't breed just because you think your bitch should have puppies. Leave it to the professionals who want to improve dogs' health and well-being through responsible breeding. DON'T DELAY - NEUTER OR SPAY. Winning prizes at dog shows are more for the people than the dogz themselves. The standards are not merciful, and conformation shows are basically beauty contests. Although it is a great honor to have a dog that is BIS or is good at obedience, agility or whatever trial, all dogz regardless of what they look like are living creatures and should be treated with respect, and have their own personal benefits thought of. I'm not saying that dogz do not enjoy shows - that is not true at all. Some dogs have a lot of fun. But some dogs don't enjoy shows. If they don't, then it won't be fun for either one of you, and showing dogz is about having fun. Besides, a dog could care less whether or not it had a Ch. title before it's name - so don't get carried away. Relax and enjoy yourself. :) I will say it again - dog breeding is an art. It is supposed to be for shaping dogs that can do certain tasks and at the same time be comfortable with their bodies and happy with their environments. Unfortunately, dog shows have gotten a little out of hand in the real world what with keeping working dogs' forms and at the same time trying to get the dogs' characters to reflect household companions. In some breeds' cases, bodily traits have been so overly emphasized that the dogs have hard times doing normal physical activities. (Such as breathing in bulldogs.) I personally love dogs and all animals and my goal in life is to help them live happy, healthy lives. I'm not sure how I can breed dogs for showing purposes in real life and help their overall welfare at the same time. Of course, this is not a problem with a computer game like Petz. ;-) I'm not trying to sound hypocritical, I'm just searching for a way to have fun showing dogz, and help their genetics at the same time. I thought I had it all figured out before, but ever since I read Dogs: A Startling New Understanding of Canine Origin, Behavior & Evolution by Raymond & Lorna Coppinger, I'm not sure what to believe about dogs shows and how they benefit dogs in the long run anymore. What kinds of breeds does MK specialize in breeding? At MK I breed a lot of different breeds. Hopefully soon I will be able to get more specific with which breeds I want to focus on. That way I will be able to become an official breeder for the PKC. I have already come up with a few breeds I am considering, and I've decided that I want to (re)introduce some particular breeds to the petz community. The Irish Setter is a good example along with the poodle and maltese. Not very many people own these kinds of dogs and in a show, when only a couple of people enter, these breeds miss out on the opportunity to get a BOB (Best Of Breed) because there aren't enough entries. One thing is for sure though, I am definetly going to breed dalmatians. I know they are already popular but I cant resist; the dalmatian is my FAVORITE breed of all! That's how/why I got my dog Mira. ;) Prefixes? We have 3 prefixes: Miranda, Mira Kennelz and JMK. What are the "other" adoptions for? The adoptions are for my petz that need new homes for whatever reason. Undoubtably they will all need really good adoption applications, so they can get the best homes for them. What about the CZPKC? Miranda's Kennelz only shows in The Community Zero Petz Kennel Club for recreational purposes. No puppies for adoption on this site will be required to go to CZPKC show homes. MK is focused on the PKC, DKC, and CKC. I used to show my dogz in the KCA as well, but the owners have closed down that organization. :( Training and handling?? Yes, we have a training and handling service at MK. Although I am mainly focused on breeding, dog owners can board their beloved petz here for training in various types of shows held at the PKC, DKC, and CKC. They can also earn their titles during their stay! ;) A final note: Dogz is only a computer game. It is NOT real. Although there are 5 different versions of the game, if you want to adopt any dogz from this site, you need to either have the 4th version (Dogz 4) or 5th version (Dogz 5). ~Miranda |
