The Maple Leafs signed winger/defenceman/tough guy Wade Belak yesterday and moved closer to doing the same with Bryan McCabe.
Leafs assistant general manager Mike Penny said he was confident defenceman McCabe would be signed eventually. The 28-year-old did not file for arbitration on Tuesday in order to keep negotiations alive.
"We have very cordial relationship with ongoing dialogue," Penny said.
"We're plugging along."
Both McCabe and Belak were Group II restricted free agents.
